Merc for Hammerdin

What recommendations would you guys give for mercs for a hammerdin?

Heya,

Here's a question for the Hammer fellas. When doing Chaos Sanc a lot, do you use an A2 merc at all for the lovely insight? If so, what kind of insight do you use with him and what aura do you take on him? HolyFreeze or Defiance? And do you go for the lowest possible damage pole insight, or what, to avoid IM? Assume no enigma for the sake of tele-saving him.

You are paladin why would you want insight??? - you have redemption which is supperior
You can't save you act2 merc in chaos so get use to fact that you gona pay 50-150k every chaos run

Insight makes your life so much easier. You don't need to use mana pots when teleporting and so on. Yes, redemption is good, but insight + redemption = better.

Why you can't save you merc in chaos sanctruary? Make your insight into a low damage weapon such as scythe and you will have enough time to react and retreat + cleansing till you got rid of im.

I have mana pool ~445 - during teleporting I need may be at worst 1-2 pots to drink that not bother me at all
But my merc along can solo Nilathak w/o much hassle ;) all he need my conc aura. I found extemely usefull to have your merc proc decrify specially then you are hammering things around that and holy freeze on top of that

for nith runs, just give him a high dmg insight while for chaos use a scythe or something.
i prefer a a2 def merc with insight just cuz he can slow down the minions for u to cast more hammers to hit them.

on the insight, u can either get a CV for lots of dmg, or go with a low dmg one so ur merc wont get raped in chaos runs. your choice. i prefer low dmg, so i dont have to get a new merc every 10 seconds from iron maidens

noo ne mentioned the wonderful a3 cold merc with lawbringer?

i love it during cs! and in general too. its not like i'dd really need him but i love to have an side kick with me! freezing helps with baals minions and that knockback gets me extra kills during an cs run :grin:

heres what i'v found working for me:

lawbringer in crystal sword
harle with prubby
ebug gloom
stormshield (still thinking of socet option)


i also noted that low ed% roll on a vougle was still too mutch when combined with conc from the pally to prevent the nasty im deaths. but i think this is more of an personal issue im haveing :rolleyes:

you get your holy freeze aura, frost nova's popping off all over the show and is 100% immune to Iron Maiden. your a hammerdin (cheese'adin), surely you don't need your merc to kill things.

a ber/ber CoA? this has to be the single most ridiculous merc setup reccomendation for any character i have ever seen. besides costing enough to build an entire character, there's a distinct lack of LIFE LEECH in that setup. the Gaze option is GG. keep your ber/ber CoA for a character.

My Merc uses 17 Med Insight eth CV, with Chains of Honor BoneWeave and 8/20 Ber VGaze. He does absolutely great everywhere. Especially handy in Travincal cause he kills ones in the doorway. lol. CoH provides an additional 8%LL , 8% DR, and gets him to max resist. Even keeps him safer around conviction uniques which are all too common in Trav and CS. He only dies like once for me in CS cause IM, and he died to Diablo himself just a bit ago lol but his set is really solid. I chose Holy Freeze which really spares me from taking hits, which saves me a socket or 2 on shaels for FHR. After reading this though, makes me think about stashin a 17 Med Insight Scyth for chaos runs. Also planning on Eth Glitching something like a Laquered Plate and rolling a new CoH for him.
