View Full Version : What do bowazons do about resists?
Greetings Amazon Forum-goers,
I've always wanted to create a bowazon and am considering doing so now. I've read the guides in the stickied section, and have found them very helpful, but one thing I'm still confused about is what bowazons do to raise their resists.
With my previous characters I've never had any problems getting to maxed resists in Hell difficulty, but after looking at the recommended bowazon gear it seems like most people target modifiers like life and mana leech, +dexterity, and increased attack speed. I'm having kind of a difficult time figuring out where the resists come from.
I'd appreciate suggestions on this topic. Do most bowazons tend to get by on charms and amulet/ring/boots resist bonuses? Or do people just accept poor resists as a tradeoff with this build?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Heya,
In general, if you're focusing on raw damage dealing with your bowzon, you likely won't have good resistances, unless you have really nice charms, and sub out damage oriented gear for resistance oriented gear. And of course, adjust for the 30% you'll get from all three Anya quests.
The idea is, you won't be hit often enough to truly need to worry about resists. You have your D/A/E skills, and you're killing from a distance. Many bowzons even go base vitality to have pure Dex for damage. You use your Valk, Decoy and Merc to manage crowds, and you just keep a keen eye for FE/CE when firing like mad at close distances.
With some gear, you can easily get great resistances. But it requires you really slow down yourself in terms of damage. Mav's set for example can get you great resists, to full max resists in Hell with the Anya quests. But that's quite a different amazon compared to a pure damage monger Faith based amazon.
Think like a Necro summoner who doesn't need resists really. Just blow things up from far away and it's not an issue. And of course, play a little cautious and pay attention.
Cheers,

probably this is why treachery runeword is very popular with bowazans=)
apart from the 45ias, it also comes with 15%pdr, poison length reduction and ~60 resist all from ctc fade..
downside is, you have to get hit first=P

Stand in a fire with treachery :P
Screw resist, it's dodge or die ^^
Meh, the only important ones are Lightning (Burning Souls et al) and Fire (if you're doing Council or FE super's). Poison and cold aren't as big, especially if you have a ravenfrost - just run away. I think the only time poison comes into the equation is if you get hit by something with really high psn (e.g. uber skellie mages, or Andy).
But yeah, other than LR, I think you can fare fairly well with "ok" resists.
Good torch + anni + 3x 15 all res grandcharms + tri res rare boots on my hybrid. But res isn't really that necessary on a bowzon, since you're not going into close combat, and commonly got a valk in front of you. If you want to run soul infested areas you need more lightres though.
chug antidotes before you go into an area with a alot of posion, and keep them in your belt slot--if not for you then for your merc.
gamble some tri-res boots, I have these:
Eagle Slippers
12% chance to cast nova when struck (i rarely see this as i try not to get hit)
20% frw
CR 20
LR 33
FR 21
49% goldfind
Full Disciple set also give a good res bonus, tho it's mostly fire. but a couple fo LR rings will starighten you out.
being accustomed to paladins and sorcs and religiously maxing my resist in Hell, I too was worried about res when i started playing a bowa, however, I'm finding that with a valk, merc and decoy, its not difficult to avoid the majority of damage. Basically you only need resists to take care of stray shots and charged bolts. Always cast decoy ahead through a doorway.
Like kijya said perfect anni + torch = 40 all res + 3* anya's is 70 all res. You can get some additional charms with 10+ single res or all res. You could also go with Kira's if it's an option to you.
You can always switch from bow slot to second slot : titans + sanctuary...

I agree with DayDream. The general trick is to try not to get hit. At least for PvM, anyway. Just stand back, shoot, and hope for the best :D
But seriously, charms'll do it for you. Whatever Inv. slots you aren't using for +dmg or AR charms should be res prefix charms. Bowies don't need max res, just enough to not get 1hitKO'd. Then turn around and blast the suckah that tried to cap you to oblivion.
Resists on a budget:
40 - WWS bow
30 - Lionheart
30 - Anya quests
15 - Tal Helm
= max resists in NM
+ jewelery + boots + gloves + belt + charms
= solid, if not maxed Hell resists
Resists for the rich:
15 - Faith
30 - Fort
20 - anni
20 - torch
30 - Anya quests
= max resists in NM
+ jewelery + boots + gloves + belt + charms + helm
= solid, if not maxed Hell resists

If you look at most of the bowazon guides they say use a raven or bk rings. with the bk rings you have life leech. I have been one pt away from death started usin multi shot and have filled my life back up completly in an instant. Also seeings how a bowazon is suppose to be a ranged build you should not need to worry about them if you stay away from the enemies. But my zon had hardly any resists in hell and I just relied on the life leech.
