View Full Version : Occy keeps teleing me into groups of enemies
I just switched from using a wizardspike to an Occy and so far am not happy with the switch. The +3 to skills is nice, but whenever I attack a group of monsters that has a ranged attack, I always seem to end up in the middle of a pack of monsters and have already died many times because of this. I also tend to spam fire ball a lot and didn't care for the slower cast rate either. So far I am not too impressed by this item, I was sure it would be better but the increased chance of dying is unacceptable. The 25% chance to cast teleport when struck is a huge penalty to use the item, not to mention extremely annoying. Do I need to switch up my tactics somehow or should I just stick with the wizardspike?

Ranged monsters (particularily archers) are the bane to an Occy wearing sorc. My advice: Pay attention and drink a potion once in a while. :wink: Human reflexes should be >>> D2 Monster AI.
Also, don't stand so friggin' stationary so that the ranged attackers all focus upon your position - try to actively dodge a missile once in a while. Keep a medium/long range from the monsters and use teleport to position your merc between you and the enemies.
After that, go get swarmed by an Extra-Fast / Fanaticism / Cursed pack and tell me if Occy doesn't save your butt (assuming you survive the initial onslaught).

There have been a couple of discussions about this lately in the SPF. Basically, from what I can see, Occy's random teleport is a matter of opinion, based as much upon personal preference as anything. In other words, it's:
Block vs. no-Block, version 2.0.
Having close to max block helps alot. With no block using occy your bound to have alot of mishaps by teleporting in places you dont want. But I feel occy helps me more then not depending if you have high hit recovery. If you get swarmed by mobs and have very low hit recovery you may not be able to tele away without occy because it will automaticly put you somewhere not matter if your still in the delay of recovering from a hit.

Keep Occy for as switch when you are finishing a boss to add 50 mf....beside that use something else ^^

ocu is only good if you do boss runs
but take something else for area runs (pit, tunnel etc)

IMHO I think its just a matter of experience with the Occy. When I first used is I felt the same as you but, now after having lots of xp with it I love it. Although, once I'm rich enough this ladder I will most likey be going with a 6 isted crystal with wizzy on switch, instead of occy plus izzy.
Did you trade the wizzy? If not experiement with switching in between the two until you know when to use which. Also, like mentioned above, having a merc who tank those ranged fellas will really help.

i really hate ocu because no matter how good you are , you will still get hit often by ranged attacks in places like pit, ancient, and so on
not only is it dangerous, but also annoying because occasionally it looks like your character is nothing but a ball being kicked left and right by the enemies
in a fast game like this, i really prefer to have 101% accurate control over my character
Yup, occy is only ever useful for boss runs, where u wont get hit much. I personally never, ever, ever use occy on anything other than a glitch meph mfer, even if the occy was given to me for free and I have nothing else better than it.
