Hello,
I looked through the stickies and searched and only found "poison length reduced." And so my question is: has poison changed much in 1.11? It must have been fresh in 1.10 when poison really hit a nice point with how it claced and a few high poison low duration items mixed with low poison high duration items would generate an enormous bite damage per frame. It was really fun to get a blue bow that had a stacked poison mod for a huge 300~400 over 6~7 seconds, then use Venom skill with an assassin, and then just a handful of relatively nice poison charms (100 over 5~7), and you could generally get disgustingly good shots from it. I imagine this changed with how duration and damage over that duration calculated, but my searches didn't give me quick information on that.
Anyhow, I would appreciate any information or a link to changes on poison?
I just found a rare bow with a stacked poison mod and some poison charms, so I'm interested in making a poison assassin again.

The big change was from v1.09 to v1.10. Poisonous ranged attacks is now counted the same way as melee attacks: damage rate is the sum of the damage rate of all sources, duration is the average duration of all sources (in v.1.09, the duration was the sum of all durations for ranged attacks).
The exception to the above is on items with both a poison prefix and a poison suffix (charms or weapons). These work like the old ranged attack did.
What´s new in v1.11 is that Venom sets the duration to 0.4 seconds, which means that other poison sources are of very little use in that case.
(Haha, I remember my 1.09 Mojomancer and his fire rogue merc. The rogue had a 6 PEmerald Long War Bow and Wormskull. She killed NM Ancients with a total of 6 arrows (although the duration was about 40 seconds, so we did a lot of running...)

Poison is pretty craptastic now. That's the major change.

That's a bummer. I really enjoyed my old assassin. One arrow and watching Diablo die was fantastic fun.
So venom totally destroys the worth of poison from other items then? Too bad. I have this rare bow that got a double poison mod so it's stacked and nice and high (nearly 400 with only 7 seconds of duration listed) with some other nice little mods. I wanted to combine that with some charms and a high level Venom skill on an assassin to plink at things and watch them die.
But if Venom sets all the duration to 0.4 no matter what, that sounds like it ruins all other poison damage pretty much. Is that correct?
Basically this would be a useless act to make this assassin?

Hmm.
I kinda disagree with the consensus that Poison is crappy.
I find it quite useful and very powerful if enough thought is given to using it to augment your damage.
Now, using multiple poison sources with Venom is kinda futile, but the Venom skill itself is quite lovely- Strafers and slower rate (elemental) Zealots should absolutely LOVE the effects of venom (via Treachery). Add Trangs Gloves + Venom and you get an extremely nice secondary damage source for very little expense.
If you don't use the Venom skill, you can still cause some serious damage with Poison by simply stacking sources. The Magic Bow mentioned earlier would be nice in conjunction with several other high damage, long duration sources (like charms, P'Emeralds, etc.).
There is one cool trick with venom skill and a necro using poison dagger. Poisondagger forces the venom to the poisondagger duration, making it an extreme damage bonus. Thus a treachery armor is more powerful than a bramble when using poison dagger skill. This is the only case where venom's duration gets overridden, as far as I know.
I guess you could prebuff venom with grief so you could still use bramble.
Another thing people don't know is that negative poison resist items will extend the duration of your poison from any source.

There is one cool trick with venom skill and a necro using poison dagger.....
actually, this trick works much better with a Zon useing Poison Javelin.
