To all,
Is it possible for nightmare lvl monsters to be guests in a Normal Act 5 single-player B.Net game? I am a lvl 29 Necromancer with an Act 2 merc....wandering down into Abaddon below the Frigid Highlands....All of a sudden we run into a pack of CHAMPION and GHOSTLY Blood or Hell Lords! Needless to say, we were wiped out immediately over and over again.
According to the Arreat Summit, at a minimum these monsters are lvl 55....no telling how powerful the Champions and Ghostly ones are...

These creatures should only appear in mid-to-late Nightmare at the earliest, it seems.

Is this a game error or balancing error of sorts? I went broke resurrecting my merc over and over again. I gave up in disgust and didn't even bother trying to find the next waypoint for Anya's quest.

EDIT - I know for a fact these were Champion and Ghostly Blood and/or Hell Lords because of their super-fast Frenzy attack. Why are monsters a good 30 levels higher than me showing up like this?? I don't mind a tough fight since I actually beat Diablo on Normal without spending any skill or attribute points since the beginning of my game, but this is ridiculous!

yes, act5 has guest monsters from all other acts, makes some areas much more difficult

you should be higher than lvl 30 in act5 nm, best exp gain for lvl 30 is around normal act5 (-+5 lvls from your char)

ffejrxx - I appreciate your response, but I was playing Act 5 Normal. I am playing single-player games on Battle.net. Single-pass, full-clears. Just finished the second quest in Act 5 Normal and all the monsters above Abaddon at the time were at my level. Haven't even come close to Baal yet and I couldn't join a NM game even if I wanted to because I'm not even a Slayer yet. There's a serious problem here, because those monsters don't belong in Act 5 Normal.
I wish I had screenshots of this, but I don't because I had no idea at the time exactly what I was up against. Spending and losing 150,000 gold raising my merc and death gold penalties is no fun. It pretty much ruined my character's stash and brought my game to a total standstill.

There is a normal version of the Blood Lords:
http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/monsters/act5-bloodlord.shtml

The page you linked to is for the Guest Monster versions of the Blood Lords, which only occurs in Nightmare and Hell modes. Still, champion Blood Lords are nasty beasties for a character of the appropriate level.

Lanceor - Wow, I didn't see that page at all....but still, these guys wiped my poor merc out faster than Diablo could....and my merc had a pretty godly Pike for its level (doing 24-105 dmg or so) They seem way too overpowered for Abaddon in Normal Act 5. If I am lvl 29 (which is almost a perfect lvl for that area) and the base version of these creatures are lvls 36-40....what would the Champion and Ghostly versions be?
Still seems like an in-game balancing problem....I can now see what it feels like for someone in Hell to run into MSLE fanat/convict/stoneskin/superstrong/Lightning/Poison/Magic/Physical/Cold Immune is like.....

EDIT
ffejrxx - Sorry, it looks like you were right. The area level for Abaddon in Normal is 39. I haven't completed this game in a long time, but why in the world would they stick a lvl 39 area right underneath a lvl 25 area (Frigid Highlands)? I think this would ruin many an unsuspecting players' day (it sure ruined mine!). So, I guess we should run Abaddon only around the time we're ready to fight Baal....."scratches head"....What was Blizzard thinking?

Blizzard was trying to make this game as challenging as possible. But really though, you should be able to take them out okay, what kind of Necromancer are you? I finished Normal difficulty with my level 44 Amazon when I was playing SP. As long as you stock pots and have TP ready, you could take them.

As far as I have seen and read Blood Lords and Hell Lords are monsters that only spawn in act5 they are not guests, only in NM and Hell there are guests. Also checking the Arreat Summit the tables for monsters say Blood Lords lvl 36 and Hell Lords lvl 40.

Raith and GotFriana - I am moving this thread to the SP Forum because the other posters on this thread showed me that these "Frenzytaurs" are actually supposed to be there instead of "OMG! Blizzard is cheating me!". Since this is no longer the case, I am looking at strategies and such to cope with the situation on this new thread:

I'll consider this thread closed for all practical purposes. Thanks!
