View Full Version : Killing Lilith
hey guys. i actually decided to finally do my own version of an uber trist run and failed miserably in the killing of lilith. she heals incredibly fast and even my smiter can't hack her down in time.
i decided to equip a prevent monster heal weapon and then do the switch, but end up dead after a successful hit. i almost got her the 40th or so time, but damn, she's one fast tough cookie. any suggestions? i dont really use any runewords because i'm not that rich, but i do have a pretty decent set up.
those blue gloves that give 350% damage to demons + spirit pally shield
switch with woestave
IK boots + guill helm (crushing blow) + duriel's duress shell + dungo belt? (10% damage reduced) + angelic rings and ammy
how do you guys trist so easily?
i wanted to continue and try my luck with lilith, but the game lagged out after 3 hours of play and my friend idling in the background.
now i have to do the key search again :/ oh well.
any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.
and a heaven's mighty shael'ed with +40%

Don't quite understand the angelic combo when smite is auto hit. Swap them for something else with resist/stats.
Your spirit shield is in what shield? and what is the base resist?

If you're a pure smiter I dont see how you can have problems with her? Ofc more players makes it a little harder but I'd really reccomend keeping a life tap wand on switch. Use it to get the first tap going and after that it's cakewalk.
Also lure her to place where you have killed monsters because you dont want to take her on near hell witches that amp you or in a stream of arrow fire. Once open wounds trigger the regen should be negated rly.
edit: oops didnt even notice he didnt have dracs... that rly xplains it. Life tap is a must. I just take it for granted so I missed it :~

Doesn't look like you have a source of life tap either.
As cow had suggested.
Look for a life tap wand/dagger wand.
oh my friend was a necro and he provided the lifetap. but that proved useless because of her fast regen. thats why i had a prevent monster heal weapon on switch. also her poison attack + melee proved to be my downfall every time. i use the angelic rings and ammy for the AR boost (I'm also a zealer). i tend to zeal near the end of a kill.
i'll try it out next time. life tap away!
Are you using Open Wounds?
Prevent Monster Heal doesn't work on Ubers and Mini Ubers. Open Wounds and poison (well, not on Lilith) still work, though.
I'd say, lose the Angelics and just smite them 'till they drop.
I done ubers 2 times on this ladder and Lilith is not hard, You just need open wounds to stop the life train.

Maybe stock up some antidotes and full rejuvs, they help a lot 0.0

Antidote potions have stackable time, so drinking twenty will last ten minutes - use the advice above. Also, smiter and zealer aren't the same, though you've used both to describe your character. Unless you're an Exemplar (the ideal hybrid of Martyr, Zealot, Defender, Dragoon, Relinquisher, and Smiter) then doing both tends to split too much ability, and Exemplars need great equipment or experience in playing them. Then there's the difference between Life Tap and uber regeneration: the two have nothing to do with each other. The tap merely keeps you alive since you can't leech with Smite otherwise, whereas her regen playing a factor merely means you're not doing enough damage to finish her off before your low resistances end you.
You're probably better off asking about smiters in the Paladin forum, but if you're set on using that character, then ask advice on how to increase its lethality and survivability with the skills/gear you have on-hand. I'm going to assume it's too late to adjust the skill distribution to make it a true hybrid.
ideally you should have draculs and just run up to lillith and start hitting. I equip my char with a lifetap wand but when doing lillith i find it isn't practical in casting lifetap manually since i am naked when i swap to wand.
Also if you find it had to kill lillith you are going to find it difficult to kill the ubers since meph's conviction will lower you resist by a large amount.
Once you get draculas which i think is almost mandatory to kill ubers, maybe get your friend to come in with a barbarian assuming he has one to cast bo.
but i read somewhere that prevent monster heal works on d-clone? i guess he's not a mini-uber so it's different?
i will work on finding some open wounds. until then, i'll just mf for some dracul's. thanks.

The cheapest you can get away with doing the ubers with is a black runeword flail. After that everything you need can be taken care of with low runes and pdiamonds.
Lilith's physical attack hits HARD. It can do around 800 damage in one hit. Life tap keeps you healed and is essential for anyone doing Ubers. But for it to be of any use against Lilith, you need to survive being hit by her. If your character level is lowish and you're a little low on life, consider getting Battle Orders or using something like Stormshield to reduce the physical damage.
Ax2Grind... there's a build called a 1pt Smiter, which is basically a Zealot. That's where the terminology confusion comes from. :)

I'm aware of the prevalence of makeshift smiters, but most builds are designed for one thing. Take that away, and you need enormous skill and expensive gear to run it in another direction. You can't bring a knife to a gunfight unless you're really good at throwing that knife on the first chance, since you don't get a mulligan.
get a source of life tap and all you have to do is stand there til she dies
done use angelics, use a raven, bk and maras
i find lilith the most difficult, even more than tristam itself but it might be because she spawned near a harpy boss with enchantments and ...amped :(.

The ubers are weak enough that if you are geared properly (not necessary expensively), it's like they are using air guns, in which you using a gun or a knife does not matter.

Does anyone know what type of damage those harpies do in the matrons den? Whenever I run into a boss pack or even a group of 4 they wear down my health so quick I'm afraid to hope my life taps going to trigger if I charge into them. Lillith isn't too tough as I can't get 1HKOed by her.
Is it magic damage they do, cause I've had max resists and it still does heaps of damage or is it physical?

Spirit isn't a good shield for melee characters, as it lacks blocking bonuses. It's meant for casters and a melee paladin doesn't need skill bonuses at all. If you cannot afford a HoZ, use a Stormshield+pdiamond instead.
LoH doesn't add its bonus to demons to smite and you can get IAS from Highlord's as well (see below). Dracul's will make you independent from fellow necros, although I admit that a necro is an excellent support character for that job, assuming he's a summoner.
Even though you are using zeal as well, remove the Angelic stuff and wear e.g. Ravenfrost (apart from CBF, it adds lots of dex and ar), a dual leech ring (nearly any amount of mana leech would be enough... smite doesn't benefit from it, however, only zeal) and Highlord's instead (DS, IAS).
Anyway, even with the current equipment you should be able to kill Lilith with the help of your fellow necro, so there must be something wrong with your strategy.
Your paladin has 75% blocking and you are using holy shield, right ? That's ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY for a paladin. Hover the mouse cursor over the defense rating to check that. If not, invest into dex accordingly after you equipped Ravenfrost and a useful shield and activated Holy Shield.
Don't fight Lilith while being amped by the succubi, else she might one-hit-kill you. If there are succubi near her, kill them first or park them elsewhere, then get amp removed by Malah before fighting her. You should also have maximum poison res and perhaps have an antidote poison at han, to drink it after she died. Even with maximum poison res her poison will be very potent.
Don't zeal near the end of the kill. You can do that versus regular Baal, but it's too dangerous versus Lilith. Smite her until she's dead. You need guaranteed hits to have a steady supply of life from lifetap. Zeal doesn't auto-hit and it also distributes on all enemies around you (although I assume that everything around you is dead when fighting her).
There are two types of succubi. The one kind shoots red balls of a very potent kind which deal fire+physical damage. The other ones do regular, physical melee hits IIRC,. One of the two will amp you which will be very dangerous together with any crowd there and it will be deadly when fighting Lilith, as already said. Other monsters are archers (dangerous, they are quick and run away from a melee) and spear rogues (harmless - they come to you and provide leech while you fight them). The game randomly selects 3 out of these 4 monster types IIRC. The
My smiter setup (he's lvl 83 now, but was lvl 78 when I started doing trist)
"Black" runeword in flail (cheapest 1h weapon for CB and speed)
Draculs gloves (gives OW and refreshes lifetap)
Guillaumes Face helm (LOTS of CB, str)
4 socket Kurast Shield 44base 4pdiamond (elite shield for damage, then LOTS of resists)
Raven frost (crap)
"Treachery" runeword armor in Mage Plate
Rare ring with +str and a little light res
Sandstorm Trek boots (gotta find something else, I wear them for the str only)
Rare belt with FHR and STR (just a placeholder for my godly craft)
Rare amulet with resists and +str (and barb combat skills or something)
Lots of life charms, like +29life LCs (these are cheap)
crap anni (but that's added recently)
Wand with life tap charges on switch (VERY important for survival - lifetap first)
Except for the anni and maybe the shield, this equipment costs pgems. Or is free.
thanks for the advice! i finally got a chance to mf draculs gloves and smited lilith to death!
i'm still wearing my spirit shield though. i really like it. and i haven't found a stormshield yet, even though i've done so many runs...maybe it's just bad luck. i have about 288-300ish mf on my sorceress (forgot the last time i checked).
unfortunately, uber meph proved to be my downfall. next time, i shouldn't solo and just wait for someone to play with...
back to my key searches! and a stormshield...
