best way to get basic uniques

I need some advice. What is the best way to get some basic uniques. I've been trying for a while and still need gear like twitch, gull, shards, and so on. What is a good run? I read all these threads on basic gear set ups and I can't even get this basic gear.

Also in a similar vein, is there any trick to shopping items. As an example, I'm trying to build a hammerdin and I read stuff like "just buy a +2, 3 conc, 3 bh scepter from hell drognan." ok, sounds easy enough, but 45 minutes later the best I can find is a 2 conc, 2 bh, with some fcr...

It is like a catch 22... all these characters are suggested to mf and gear up, but you need the gear to do it. I guess I just want to get off my feet, but it's been since ladder started and I'm still nowhere.

I think NM meph can drop any unique on classic....a pretty easy run. Alternatively, you can do Normal Cow King runs, just get a character that can make the portal, and have a character to be the designated killer.

Shopping can be easily done in A1, set up a cow portal by akara, and use the portal to reset the shop menu.

doing cow runs without two sets of cd-keys is nearly impossible..

you could build either an orb sorc and run nightmare diablo
or a tesladin and run normal diablo/mef

buy items such as twitch, shard, magefist and eyeless for approximately 550k. gull you probably won't be able to buy however with money but on a sorc I wouldn't really want one that much, running glitch meph/andy with low mf is more profitable than areas like ancient tunnels with decent mf.

people will really sell those for gold? Gold is easy to get, I can do that.
