View Full Version : Specializing in one Class
As a recent returnee to D2, I am kind of overwhelmed by all the different builds and necessary gear to be successful. I don't play nearly as much as I did a few years ago. I was thinking of narrowing my focus to one class and learning the ins and outs and specializing in gear for that class only. My question is which class would offer the best variety to allow for different builds? I usually find myself gravitating to Paladin, Necromancer, and Amazon - although I have never gotten the hang of a bowzon. I tend to be a safe player that doesn't like dying even though I'm softcore.

If you want a lot of builds, go Paladin. Easy to maintain high resists, easy to obtain high hp, easy to orient a build that's elemental or physical, blah blah.
Yeah, either a Hammerdin or Fishymancer, fishymancers don't require 'godly' items.

Of the three you mentioned, I would suggest zon. (Sorceresses are my personal favourite though.)

I'd have to recommend a paladin out of the three you chose, simply because it offers the most variety in builds, while still remaining an easy character to play without much for gear. I think a zeal based build is probably one of the easiest to start out with. Just pile on as much increased attack speed, crushing blow, and life leech as you can and you'll do ok. Once you gain in gear a bit you can move on to several other pretty effective builds from there.
Thanks for the replies. I have some characters now but what I was trying to get at is that since I don't play that much, I find myself spread too thin trying to get gear for too many classes. I'm thinking of doing the paladin thing. That way I can concentrate on pally shields, scepters, etc. Enough variety among pally types that I should be entertained. Maybe once I master that I'll branch into another class.

Pallies are probably the strongest characters in the game so that's a decent choice. However, Necromancer (especially summoners) are not gear-dependent; you can use a lot of different stuff you can find, craft, gamble or trade. That may make them interesting if you don't intend to invest much time.
