View Full Version : Rune Levels: I didn't think this was possible

Back in .09 I got a Mal from nightmare Bloody Foothills and thought I was incredibly lucky. Just now, leveling in nightmare City of the Damned with my Warcrier while others leveled up in earlier acts, I horked an Ist off a Misshapen. What are the TCs for Ists and other obvious things I should know about why this happened?

The Damned in the "City of the Damned" have an mlvl of 57. They're natural treasure class is "Act 4 (N) Cast A" which has a TC level of 51, thus they get upgraded to "Act 5 (N) Cast A" (TC level of 57). This TC contains "Act 5 (N) Good" which in turn contains "Runes 17", thus they can drop up to an Ist.

That's not to say that this is obvious though.

See, there's no way I'm trying to get into that amount of minutia, so you know I have to be telling the truth! Go figure, though, this Barbarian's nightmare hellforge reward was an Io, and earlier, while creating a game called "Act 3 No Rush," other players went a bit ahead and returned the Gidbinn. What they obviously missed, laying on the ground right beside the burning totem, was a Lem rune. Maybe someone's trying to tell me something about this warcrier, but my mercenary just now stripped a Vipermagi off a champ slinger while I was dealing with Eldritch.

Where was this luck at the beginning of the season?

Nice find, I'd never think an ist could drop there.

I've seen someone on these forums get Vex while saving NM Anya.

I was quite surprised that, while testing out a GF barb in SP, I horked a Sur rune off nm trav. Its quite amazing how nm monsters can drop these high lvl runes.

This isn't possible, it must have been hell.

I remembered clearly that it was nm, as the councils died in less than 5 seconds each, and my merc wasnt using a killing setup. I've dont hell trav on bnet with my gf barb, and the councils take much, much longer time to kill. My merc on bnet uses the exact same gear as the one in SP, and my barb uses the exact same tactics as I did in SP. Shame I didnt take a screenshot.

Well, you should have your memory checked. There is no monster in NM which can drop Sur, except maybe griswold/smith due to their bug, but I still doubt it.

I got a Gul in nm at baal's minions. I was surprised to say the least.

Maybe theres something different with SP then, but I remembered it was nm, and it didnt happen that long ago. I'm also certain that my memory is fine.

Either you are mistaken and it was hell, or you are using some mod. No monster in NM can drop Sur.

Alright, let's not get into an argument about what can and can't drop, or when and by whom. Let's, instead, make a list of the first monster capable of dropping each rune, and qualify it for version if different. For example, the following are assumed all if only one is listed, and .10/.09/.08/.07 if different:

Zod:
Cham:
Jah/Jo:
Ber:
Sur:
Lo:
Ohm:
Vex:
Gul:
Ist:
Mal:
Um:
Pul:
Lem:
Fal:
Ko:
Lum:
Io:
Hel:
Dol:
Shae/Shael:
Sol:
Amn:
Thul:
Ort:
Ral:
Tal:
Ith:
Eth:
Nef:
Tir:
Eld:
El:

The question is whether we should add white monsters versus blue/gold/etc. I think the absolute first is probably good enough for now.

Apart from the Countess in Normal, Tal and Ral can fisrt be dropped by Ghouls in Catacombs level 3.

ATMA does this for you, if you are curious you can look it up yourself if you want someone to spend a lot of time hunting for this.

The only thing different in SP is there are no ubers or dclone. In an unmodded SP/bnet/whatever game there is no way you got a sur from NM trav.

Well, phooey. I suppose that rare rerolling level list wasn't necessary, either, because ATMA does that, too? BAH!
