I saw this in my diablo2 folder/support,but someone told me its wrong.can anyone explain this to me?
thanks
No, if you fail a check to do one, it will try to do the other, but you can only do 2x. So if you have 50%ds and 50%cs, it will be 75% total chance of double damamge.
Note too that CS from Critical Strike is rolled seperated to the CS from the masteries.

Before or after the masteries? (if this actually matters)
EDIT:
D = A + B*(1-A)
D = A + B - B*A
D = B + A*(1-B)
so it doesn't.

CS + (DS/100)*(100-CS)=50+(50/100)*(100-50)=75%
you calculated using this formular?

I guess there's not much to explain. The game simply handles it like that.

As Krischan said above, I'm not entirely sure how much more information I can give on this, but I'm always willing to try :wink3:
Essentially, having 50% CS from Critical Strike (the Amazon skill, also found on insight and peace runewords) and having 30% from one of the masteries (eg claw mastery, axe mastery, etc) would not equal 80% CS. I can't say for sure which one is rolled first, but I'd probably say the amazon skill one is, though it doesn't really make a difference. Deadly Strike is rolled last though.
I think the easiest way to understand is like this:
There are three separate ways to do double damage:
- Critical Strike (CS)
- Critical Strike from Weapon Mastery (CS from WM)
- Deadly Strike (DS)
Chance to do Double Damage = 100% - Chance that all three fail
Suppose you have 50%CS and 50%DS, the chance of both failing is 50%*50%=25%
So the chance of double damage is 100-25=75%
Suppose you have 50%CS, 20%CS from WM and 30%DS, the chance of all failing is 50%*80%*70%=28%
So the chance of double damage is 100-28=72%

Ah, my fault. I thought the questions was why it is like that. Regarding the question what the consequences are, Ava described it like I had done it :azn: . You can also conclude from it that it's irrelevant which is checked first.
