View Full Version : Zon helms for ladder players?

As much as i'd like to throw down a 120/45 helm... i don't know how many of these are available on ladder, much less to those like me who couldn't afford them anyway

are there any even remotely decent helms aside from it? a giant skull doesn't work because i don't have any 40/15s (or close)

a mavs seems ok, but i'm planning to faith mat, so i'm not sure if i'll need that much IAS. andy's visage is ugly!! (please don't say to use this :( :()

p.s. whats the verdict on boots? waterwalks? travs? gores?

boots are easy: travs unless you really need some openwounds or other things from gores.

helms are easy too. you mentioned all top end helms I think. Giant skull for knockback and ias, andy for ias and great other mods. Mav's for cheap ias some res. Possibly shako, it's a great helm for everyone though lacks ias and no leech. Possibly tals maks, for good leech and some res IIRC, though just as ugly, then go with andy.

To narrow down the possibilies, you need to define what you want from the helm. IAS? knockback? leech? res? skills? frw? life? mana?
Once we know this, we might guide you in the direction of a good and beautifull helm.

i haven't played a bowzon since the age of valor, windforce, white rings... yeah a LONG time ago

how necessary is knockback (if i'm going to run things like chaos, wsk). i haven't run the numbers yet so i'm not sure if i'll need IAS, but i'm planning on a faith matriarchal... i'll be getting IAS from gloves for sure, probably cats eye as well. leech isn't necessary, i can put on a dual leech if i don't have any, and if i do, i'll just opt with another raven or something

res? no idea, prob fort for armor, torch/anni... so my resists might be a bit low. won't need skills, frw is nice but again unless its in a 3 sock 30% FRW, i'd rather opt for better mods than FRW. i don't think life is a big issue either being a bowzon with a merc and a valk.

i'm probably leaning toward andy, but man talk about UGLY

pvp or pvm?

vamp gaze, face of horror, and steelskull are top options as well.

edit: knockback is freaking great. if there's any way to get it, get it. if there's no way to get it, get it anyway.

Giant Skull and Andariels are great helms, you just have to choose what you want in your helm.

Other good helms with a nicer price are: Stealskull and Tal Mask, you could also consider Mavinas, but I prefer the ones mentioned before this one.

Boots: Wartravelers or Gores, depends on your build.

There are many, many solid helm choices for a bowazon that isn't in dire need of IAS from your helm.

Everyone of the exceptional unique helms would get a look from me, with the exception of Darksight Helm unless I lacked CBF elsewhere.

Howltusk (KB/flee/DTM), Kira's (huge res, FHR, and the all-important ponytail), Guillame's (monster CB + DS/FHR), and a Delirium (if you aren't relying on other curse procs) would all get a look from me too.

I'm in the same boat as you. I only have 7 hrs and I'm no where near as much as I need for 120 45. I'll probably just get an andys visage.

Like Crawling said, KB should be the first thing you consider if you want to survive in the long run. Period. :) In endgame gear this will usually come from my gloves.

Personally, I like to see a ponytail so don't usually consider lids other than circlets-diadems. Look for things like +zon skills, +passive skills, 30% faster run walk, and especially sockets.

no self respecting person should slap such an ugly head piece on their zon. but looks aside the "mask" type items are really strong. Tal mask which can be obtained with pgems offers massive life/mana the highest dual leech in the game and 15 all res. andies inst too bad either but you have to wait till level 82(or 83?) to use it.

im just curious of why war travs? for the dmg added? how much is this really after everything is calculated.

on my zon the difference in raw damage between gores and travs with strafe:

449-4407 (2428 average) wartravs
380-4225 (2302.5 average) gores

69-182 (125.5) difference

I still think a Circlet looks best on an Amazon, but you'll need to be lucky gambling to get one that's useful.

if you let looks come between you and the best helm for your build you're a fool.

I am a fool because I do what gains me the most satisfaction? Hmmmm.

Yeh I personally like circlet types on zons too, besides some of the best helms are circlets(30 frw/3s, life/3s, rares). I just gambled this and I was wondering if it'd be good for a bowazon:

Artisan's tiara of something(perfection? nirvana?)
30dex
3os

I know its not the usual life/3os or the 30frw/3os, but is it still a decent helm?

is that 125.5 worth the lost of the good mods gores provide.

well you already have a crit, so the extra DS isn't that impactful. open wounds aren't godly in pvm (unless you're doing baal, but i'm sure you have some psn damage somewhere)

CB is nice though, but you're ranged and again it's not all that impactful

smackin, i'd say that's a damn good helm. the problem is that even if i strike oil and find a 3 os/3frw tiara... i don't have anything to put into it anyway!

i wasnt meaning to get personal. lord knows i've made choices based on looks as well, but i still say that the very last thing you should look at is what you look at.

ps. i should have put it as 'foolish' instead of fool.

Hehe, I didn't take it personal CDM. My implication was I do many things to myself for the stupidest reasons and later look back and wonder why.

No worries bro!

(there is no way you can't like how the ponytail swings faster when you run :-P )

like everyone else in this thread I need a decent helm too, i found a 0os 26 dex tiara which ive kept and might use. Im using vamp gaze at the moment, and the ugly green is just awful.

Heh, I dont play bowies anymore so I dont know what to do with the helm. People probably wont pay anything for it since its not the usual life/3s or 30frw/3s. I think Im gonna keep it as some kinda novelty item.

I guess that makes me a fool then. I always make sure my characters look nice. In fact, I rarely have the most effective (cookie-cutter) setup; I tend to use obscure runewords and rarely used sets a lot.
