I been doing lots of baal runs and often they will have someone leave party right before the second wave of enemies and then rejoin the party.

They say this gives you more exp. Is this another one of those bnet rumors or is there something to this?

This one's true. If no-one leaves you won't get the xp you should have done from that wave, if there are 8 partied players all in the throne.

In classic you have the same thing with diablo, also true.

This is only in 8 player games? How much less exp do you get?

Can you give me a link to some more detailed info?

Just the one wave, so not a ton.

Not much less xp at all really. And yes only 8 player games - you may have seen very occasionally baal games capped at 7 players. Pretty stupid tbh for Baaling but for classic pubby CS runs it's a very good idea (if you ever play classic, when someone says 'fill' after the last seal they mean lowest level leave the party, basic CSing etiquette). In baalruns it's the highest as much as the lowest, and more often no-one.

A quick search got me this

Someone much smarter than I am explained it to me in great detail once, but the basic upshoot is that due to a bug in the experience values, if you defeat Achmel the Cursed or any of his Greater Mummy Minions in Hell with an 8-player party, the experience is bugged and tries to reward a negative amount, which is then sanity capped leaving you with just 1 XP from each (the red skeletons give you normal XP, though). Something about a signed integer overflow in the party bonus calculation, whatever the heck that is. Reducing to a 7-person party before killing fixes the bug, and then you're free to party back up again afterwards.

Im not sure if this is true, but someone told me that you get more xp than you should if you are only 7 in party when killing wave 2.

This might just be my imagination, but dont you get arround 2 mil. xp from wave 2 when you are arround lvl 90 if some one leave party??

I think ill just go and test it.

Around lvl 90 2M exp would be more like the entire run, wouldn't it?

All it does is increase the amount of experience given by Achmel and his minions, the skeleton mages still give their normal experience iirc. In other words, the bug really only messes up 1/2 of the 2nd wave's experience. By having one person leave the party you'll just get the full experience for those ~6 monsters...not a lot at all and in my opinion and hardly worth the effort.

There's no way that would be 2 million extra experience at level 90.

I have just done some runs with my lvl 92 bvc where some javazone left party before wave 2. I actually got like 1.3-1.5 mil xp for wave 2.

The exp you get is modified by your levels. If there were 7 lvl 61 chars there, you'd get a lot more than if there were 7 lvl 98 chars.

That i know, but the fing is that it was baal runs done from a channel where only lvl 90+ can join, so every had to be over lvl 90
