I've heard two versions of it:

1. Create the game with a character that has yet to kill the bosses. Leave, re-enter with another char, kill the bosses. You will get quest drop.

2. Create the game with a char that has already done the quests, leave, enter with a char that has yet to kill the bosses. By killing them you will get the quest drop.

Which one is correct?

Number 2. You will only get a quest drop if you kill with a char that still needs the quest.

Aww, bummer.. I still can do quest baal this way, though. My ribcracker druid has yet to kill him ^_^

Unless you're talking about Andariel's bugged drop, the only way a quest drop is triggered is if a character in the killing party requires the quest, thereby taking a quest drop from a character to qualify. Drop spawning occurs when the drop is made, monster spawning occurs when you get close enough to them to activate. The difference is clear when considering Better Item (magicfinding) and searching for Uberclone.

As for Andariel's bug, that's been outlined and tested, so just do a search.

The bolded part is misleading.

You don't need a party. All you need is a game where the creator has done the quest (baal runs for sorcs with no meph is the most common, but also baalruns created by matriarch/patriarch can be quest popped by champions)

... and the killer must not have solved the quest. The first prevents the quest to be solved, the second produces a first kill drop. You don't need a party, of course, but Ax2Grind's posting also covers the special case of a one-player party :azn: .

BTW, we are talking about the first kill drop. The quest drop is made when the quest gets solved, so it can occur just once. Example: The gems dropped by Andariel when she gets killed for the quest or the gold from the Countess.
