View Full Version : ancients quest exp
How much exp does each ancients quest give? is it enough to make a difference at very high levels? Say, you are level 90 and you were glitched rushed and do all 3 ancients, would the exp be enough to even budge the exp bar?
You get a set amount per difficulty and it's not subject to the clvl penalty, but it is capped to 1 level per quest. The amount you get are (along with the lowest clvl req in order to get the complete exp amount):
Normal (1.4 million): Clvl 37
Nightmare (20 million): Clvl 68
Hell (40 million): Clvl 76
ah ty, looks like its not worth it all to save up
Nope, not worth it at all. Especialy seeing as Baals minions + Baal give good exp. I normally do most of my leveling on Baal. At the end of Normal I will level up a lot before going into NM, and then at the end of NM I do baal runs untill I hit about lvl 70-76 anyways so by the time I hit Hell ancients I get full exp. Baal runs in Hell are also one of the best ways to level up.

Well... it depends on what you are planning to do.
Notice that *Orphan said: amount per difficulty and it's not subject to the clvl penalty
On high levels clvl penality grows to an absurd percent. 40 mega ex can be equivalent of many Baal runs. If you just rush throu the game and most of your time is spent in public Baal runs, doing ancients at clvl 76-80 is ok.
Nevertheless, if you play an item-finding character which gains its levels slowly making runs in areas 85, and your goal is to take it to clvl 93 for crafting - making ancients at lvl 92 wouldn´t be wrong.

Remember that, with the exception of bosses, act four normal has three levels of monsters: 24 (Outer Steppes and Plains of Despair), 27 (City of the Damned, River of Flame), and 30 (Chaos Sanctuary). With the penalty beginning at CLvl25, this means starting A4 at 23 and moving on to the next level of monsters every three levels (23-25, 26-28, 29-31) gets you the most value of experience, since the penalty versus amount-per-next-level allows you to make more starting one level below.
Combine that with the fact there are no monsters in act five below MLvl31 any more and it makes sense to do Chaos runs as a matter of habit, whether for PvP or PvM characters. Then you should be able to easily gain six levels before Rite of Passage playing in an eight-man game, assuming you actually kill Shenk, free the prisoners, free Anya, and step on Nihlathak. The pattern is different than in 1.09, but I've rarely tried taking on the Ancients below CLvl30, and even then it was because there wasn't anything else to do - I could handle everything myself with a great build and great equipment.
Just in case you were wondering, finishing Diablo the moment you hit CLvl24 and starting A5, reaching the ELvl25 areas by the time you leveled once more was the way to do it before.

Not true. The whole mlvl = area_lvl is for nightmare and hell, not normal.
Area Levels
Outer Steppes 24/26/30
Plains of Despair 24/26/30
City of the Damned 27
River of Flame 27/30/32
The Chaos Sanctuary 30
I'm assuming ATMA is correct here, as I don't have time to check myself right now.

I used Arreat Summit's information, and it could be wrong, but all the monsters it lists are 24/27/30, and 30s only spawn in CS. I took an approximate for City/River since I saw types of monsters with characters I just leveled in both areas, so I'm basing all I said on AS and experience - the .MPQs might say otherwise. ELvl (arEa level) is now only used in nightmare and hell, this I know.
Well, imagine being lvl 96, getting around 200k exp per baalrun. Having saved the NM ancients would save you 100 baalruns, even the normal ancients saves 7 baalruns.
The key is to skip the NM ancients, level in CS, then get to a very high level, and when you have 21,4 M left, then just do Norm and NM ancients instead of 107 more baals.
IIRC you don't get any experience from ancients if you finished the difficulty.
Yes you do. A quest reward is a quest reward.
