I consider trading for a plain 45 res sacred roundache (damaged) who is supposed to get 3os after the recipe...but will the 45 resist automod willl still be there after the ilvl drop to 1?

Thanks!

It will lose the bonus and it can only get up to +35 res all after the reroll.

If answering D2 questions earned me money, I'd be a millionaire by now.

All fixed paladin shields will have 5-10 allres, as that's the only automod available at ilvl 1. Autmods depend on the ilvl alone AFAIK, not on the alvl (which gets calculated from the ilvl and the base qlvl... just an info for the others).

That info is from AS (here (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/elite/paladinshields.shtml)), so it bears the risk of being wrong :azn:

Hmm. So the automod isn't only based on ilvl like krischan said?

I'm currently running some tests on that matter

I found a low quality royal with 22ed/32 ar i tried the cube recipe on..and it rerolled with 5 resists.

So the automod reroll with the new ilvl, like you said.

Not that i doubted your opinion but i just wanted to make sure before spending too much on the 45 sacred roundache.

An ilvl 1 paladin shield is capable of getting up to +35 all resists after a "fix" cube recipe reroll.

OK, maybe it is like that, but as I'm willing to learn, I want to know why :azn:. I always thought that the selection of automods on paladin shields just depends on the ilvl.

It's not :wink3: It's based off alvl. Plus, I'm not near my notes at the moment but I believe the AS with the numbers as well. I'll need to check when I get home.

I would appreciate a more detailed explanation as well :scratch: As it is now I understand neither the numbers nor the rule.

the base item Sacred Rondache is Qlvl 70, so its ilvl=alvl should be 70.

AS says:

One Auto Mod from a given group is chosen for the item based on a random number and the level of the item (and the requirements of the Auto Mod). -I really have no idea what it means:shocked:
and:
Shimmering - All Resistances +5-10 (1)
Rainbow - All Resistances +8-15 (18)
Scintillating - All Resistances +16-30 (28)
Prismatic - All Resistances +25-35 (39)
Chromatic - All Resistances +35-45 (50)
.

So... why would max all res drop to just 35?

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. AS just meantions "level" in the description of the reqs of palashield automods and for some reason I assumed they mean the ilvl.

@sangfagel: The affix level calculation is a little more complex:

if (ilvl>99) then {ilvl=99}

if (qlvl>ilvl) then {ilvl=qlvl}

if (magic_lvl>0) then {alvl=ilvl+magic_lvl}
else
{
if (ilvl<(99-qlvl/2))
then {alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2}
else {alvl=2*ilvl-99}
}

If (alvl>99) then {alvl=99}

A sacred rondache has a base qlvl of 70 and a magic level of 0, so with an ilvl of 1, its alvl will be 41.

oh... thx... messing a calculation I made 1000 times before was really stupid of me :embarassed: If AS means alvl there´s no probs any longer.

I believe those numbers they speak of apply only if the affix level is formed from a magic affix. I've found low-affixed targes and rondaches with upper-range resistances that get ridiculously high RLvls, but with whites (inferior/plains/superiors) the calculation is different.

On white and gray class specific items the Clvl requirement of automods is ignored.

So should I not even bother finding a shield with good attributes, and just take any cracked or low quality shield if I just plan on using a runeword?

You should find a shield with good attributes. But if for example you find a cracked Archon Plate, you can use the larzuk quest to guarantee 3 sockets for nigma/lionheart/wealth with the el + chip cube recipe.

Well im using a very low def ancients pledge that someone gave me. I've found a couple of decent shield but none with resistances that are better yet. So any runeword should just be an alternative and not my main focus?
