Hey all,
so Ive read MF (magic find) guides all over explaining how they work and blagh blagh and I saw in one that you start to notice a difference about 80-100% :laughing:

I have mine at about 212%, and I havent noticed a real difference at all. Is there some point where you ACTUALLY notice something?

thanks =]

You're getting close to the "sweet spot." ~300% is as much as you really want, as after that point things slow down drastically due to diminishing returns.

If you notice something or not depends not on +mf% but on what you do and what you expect to notice. :rolleyes:

To make it short:
+ 170%mf doubles your chance to get unique drops in comparition to an character without any +mf.
+1000% mf triples your chance for uniques.

+ mf does not affect anything else than quality of drops: You will get more blues/yellows/greens/uniques but NOT more elite items. runes etc

Some of blues/yellows you get are fallen greens/uniques. (it is the part of +mf-effect you will prolly never notice:laugh: )

Most of "high quality" items are crap. (eth ba makes you happy, Isenhards armour - not... but... hallo! green is the BETTER quality than gray :azn: )

Anyway - LoD is a game of statistics and VERY high numbers. It means in praxis that you can really *NOTICE* the mf effect if you play a longer time two chars: one m-finder and one grey hunter and if you focus on counting coloured drops - doesn´t matter if you like them or not.

Like Sangafel says, it is making a difference whether you notice it or not, or whether you like the results or not.

If you're a curious sort and like to see things for yourself, the best way to do it is to do lots and lots of runs of one boss, like Pindleskin for instance, and record all the set & unique drops. Do four or five hundred runs with no MF, and then do four or five hundred with 250% MF - you WILL see quite a difference. I run Pindle with about 530%MF and my drop rate for sets/uniques over 500 runs was quite a bit better than when I was doing them with 300%MF. But the only reason I know that is because I've been keeping stats, otherwise it wouldn't have "felt" much different at all.

One thing that bears mentioning because it is VITAL and so often overlooked - the number one factor in increasing your MF % is not your gear but your SPEED. The more you kill, the more stuff drops, the greater the chances of something good dropping. Far too often people will change out all their gear for MF gear with the intention of getting more magic items, but with the actual effect of getting less because it takes them 3x longer to kill things and they die more often. Magic Find % is really only helpful if you consider it as an equation of Treasure over Time. 300% is a "sweet spot" precisely because it can be achieved by most MF builds without sacrificing too much killing speed or survivability. I can go to 500+ with my Blizz sorc on Pindle runs because I can kill his pack just as quickly with a level 23 blizz as with a level 30 blizz, and any damage increase is negligible vs the increased MF% I get from gear (in spite of diminishing returns). If I decide to do Baal runs, I'll have to drop some of that gear for resistances and skills gear lest I want my Baal runs to turn into corpse recovery runs. ;)

Hope that helps a bit!
