first off, nice avatar. second, it doesn't take all that long if you know the right ppl and get glitch rushed and stuff like that. for actual numbers tho, i've never had a lvl99...my current ladder chars are 76 and 70 and still slogging their way through hell difficulty, and i started both right when the ladder rebooted in july. i play prolly less than 15 hours a week (my gf would say more i'm sure), usually in private 1-player games and occasionally getting rushed through acts by my brother.

"All that long" is quite a relative statement. I for one think that it takes a whole bucket full of ****load of precious time to get to levels over 90. Let alone to baalrun months on end to get one lvl more in the end.
But yea, its all personal preference. I dont have any hard numbers since the most ive baalrunned is to clvl 88 or so.

edit: And yea, that avatar is quite nice.

Welcome to the forums.

I haven't had a level 99 character, and don't expect to ever have one, but the highest I've been to is level 97. When I used to play more often, level 1-94 was the first week, was level 96 by the end of the second week, and it took another week to get to 97. Experience gain was way too slow for me after that, and I lost my patience with it, so I leveled another character to 97.

If I remember correctly, it took a friend of mine close to three months to get his Druid to level 99. I'm sure it would be slightly shorter with a character that can easily solo full games; a Sorceress or Paladin for example.

Where "time played" is the variable, and "99" is the objective, it takes this long:

("time played" / day) / "99" = You should be outside enjoying the world. :P

The ingrediënts and requirements for a lvl 99 char:

-Two lifetimes without a beam of sunlight
-Lots a soup
-Cafeine
-A comfortable chair
-No gf
-No relatives or no contact with them
-Pale blue/green fluorescent skin (not unlike the Mods here)

It takes a month or so for the top players to reach 99 after a ladder reset. Remember though, these are the realm's TOP players who play in shifts and work in teams to get one particular character to 99.

This guide on Game FAQs:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/370600/37709

Does a GREAT job explaining specifically this question. The first few parts are a pretty interesting narrative about how this guide-writer beat everyone (well, sort of) to level 99 one ladder season. Assuming the narrative is true (and it's not far-fetched), it was just one college kid with a ton of time on his hands during the summer who made some good friends and was very dedicated.

It took him from July 7th 2004 to August 26th, 2004

Keep in mind though: this guy knew what he was doing, had lots of help, and played a ton. He has all kinds of tips and tricks in his guide to help you get there if you're really determined.

The bottom line is, if you want 99, you have to want it *bad*, and have a tolerance for tediuos repetition. Also helps if you really enjoy playing your character.

I find that I hit the "soft cap" around the low 80's, and my builds are always "done" at lv. 80. Any extra levels are just a bonus.

and the botters

Apparently, the bots have a much higher likelihood of dying and are unable to recover corpses... see the Tifas_Revenge story that Mordigan linked. I wouldn't know though, and of course every level 99 player is going to deny botting. ;)

Same here, i always calculate my builds in progress asumming level 85 is the limit. i have a 2 year old summoner necro though, i've played with him every once in a while and now he's level 86.

Many moons.:azn:

Ok, here's the updated table with the numbers Reborn got for the lower levels.

Start lvl End lvl Runs Total Runs %complete
--------------------------------------------------
98 99 3500 5525 100%
97 98 1100 2025 36.6%
96 97 450 925 16.7%
95 96 210 475 8.60%
94 95 110 265 4.80%
93 94 60 155 2.81%
92 93 45 90 1.63%
91 92 30 50 0.90%
90 91 20 20 0.36%

I'll just ignore the first 89 levels and look at the amount of baal runs it takes to level up from 90. Also keep in mind that this was done in single player on setting /players 8. That's 5525 baal runs from 90-99 and you would need to pick out a rough estimate of time for each run. If we say that you are playing on single player, with a good map spawn, using a powerful character and always on players 8 each run may last...3 minutes? That would be 276.25 hours. If you played 5 hours a day that would be 55.25 days. Of course, if you have a life and/or play on battlenet then you will have to spend time finding good games, get realm down for doing games in 3 minutes over an extended period, and all games will not be full. This is also pretending that you never die. In other words, on battlenet I'd probably multiply that time by 7/4 or perhaps double it. Obviously if you had friends playing the character when you weren't it would level much faster. Barring that however, I'd say 2 months of solid boring play time with no life, 3-4 months with very little life, otherwise....never.

I usually stop my builds at level 90-93.

I usually stop my builds at level 90-93.:thumbsup:I usually stop mine between level 92 and 97, depending on the character and how often I feel like playing. My three ladder sorceress' at the moment will each be at least level 93, which is when their lightning skills are maxed out.
