since I have made some random characters (level 40 woestove barb, level 50 pure shields sorc, level 4x valkazon) I thought I could make a throwbarb too.

Im not sure how to make him however.
According to what I have read here:

Throwing spears would be the highest damage weapons. Im not sure though, if IAS affects throwing speed.

If it does, Im thinking of a barb wearing:
Sigon gloves/belt (or death's gloves/belt) - sigons give 10 str (more damage?)and death's the resists

duskkeep (15 all res, 8 max dmg), tarn (+1 skill) or howltusk - I think howltusk
for the knockback

twitch for ias, or perhaps silk/gs? or maybe an ornate? what are the bearkpoints for throwing spears? but the real artenative would be the open wounds from bloodflesh

boots - 30r/w fhr, res or goblins (perhaps increased speed instead)

rings - will I need angelics? in LOD dex is used for throwing, in classic str :(
I thought I could get 300 dex and have 9min dmg rings, apparently not :(
perhaps angelic amu+ring and a 9min ring

skills: throwing mastery 20, synergy for double throw 20, double throw 10 (if I need ias I can put more), bo: 20, 5 faster run, 5 resists?


stats:
300 str
base energy
65 dex (for throwing javelins)
100 vita


has anyone made one? I know the damage will be low, but I thought I could throw so fast, that the enemies would be knockbacked all the time and open wounds/cb would kill them slowly

I can level this char to 50 easy, so I will check..

btw. what about "max ias" route: sigon gloves+armor, goldwrap, twitch, howltusk, goblins

Maybe you could try Harpoons with Double Throw :
IAS Frames per Attack
0 % 8
2 % 7.5
7 % 7
15 % 6.5
24 % 6
40 % 5.5
63 % 5

Max IAS you will get is offcourse 60, so you can't really make that 63 breakpoint, but you can easily make the 40 one.
Either with sig/deaths and goldwrap or iratha's and twitch to hit 40 exactly.

My throwbarb (sugarrush) is actually a combo of throwbarb and frenzy. He's not very good though. He was amusing in 1.09. :)

No idea about the damage boosting though. Dex or Str, never looked into it.
I'd say give it a go and let us know.

I made one a long time ago and came to some conclusions:

dont make throw your primary attack and you will be fine,
im pretty sure DEX increase throw dmg,
you need to be 20 levels HIGHER than the level you WANT to play in or the dmg is so low you cant kill anything very quickly in 6-8 player games.

Kinda killed it for me that - doing 150 dmg in games where you need 300 - 20 axes per monster - as throwing axes had better dmg - hurlbats i believe they are called - with wopping cash prices and reasonaly large stack sizes.

Might work however, if you got say, WW, maxed axe mastery, used throwing axes and pumped dex - then you could ww things in larger groups, and throw axes at things in smaller groups or for say getting the mages in CS, who tend to decripify you when you get up close. Frenzy and double swing are quite pathetic without a pair of cleglaw swords in classic sadly :cry:

Almost forgot - dont forget armours like sparkling mail and some pieces of sets like cathans - they add extra dmg - sparkling mail i think adds 30 light dmg, and some cathans bits add 25 fire dmg - it all adds up!

The fun thing about throwing weapons is that when used in melee, they never run out of durability. So you could use hurlbats on a nagabarb to level, because when you hit with them rather then throw with them, they count as normal axes. Mind you, their damage is not great, so you'd be lucky to get the manacost of a WW back.

You better get a fan pally to help you. The last throw barb I ever saw in hell was a lvl 90 before 1.10, he was one of navalwarrior's. He was an old barb by then, and played only in low# of players games, and only with a fan pally, which was the most likely aura used then. Now the monster hitpoints are very high and you will be fighting against reheal in hell, probably sooner.

Sig gloves and twitch and maybe gwrap look good. Gtoes for the cb might be a good idea, I know it works with my bowpally, although very slowly. I certainly wouldnt use rcage, flee sucks. Coif is a consideration for blinding them, so u might not have to howl or warcry much. Sig gloves and helm are great for attack rating. Skills: your skills look good. Stats: here is where their is great variability. I'm gonna check my LoD thrower here. I'm getting the impression from the above responses that dex won't add to dmg in classic for throwers, it sure does for zons.

Throwbarbs in LoD have the rare and uniq weapons and a merc to tank. It's a crime that Blizzard didnt fix rare throwing weapons along with mercs in classic, because they were indeed broken.

What about frenzy adding a 'kick'? The 6 sec frenzy is too short, even in LoD its short, given that it takes 1 second to do the weapon switch (in LoD u have a secondary pair of weapons). My LoD thrower barb worked great, with the rare/uniq weapons available and other near godly gear available. Btw, he uses warcry, not a high lvl warcry, but enought to make kills. Instead of the extremely tedious frenzy switching, I would just find a fan pally.

You will need help. Surely u arent going to play this char alone. Want to be an uber throw barb? Then get enchant and look to play games only with fan pallys around. You wont be playing him all the time, just choose those moments u can get chant and/or a fan pally. Concentration aura is all over the place lately, and that will boost dmg too. Amping necros will increase kill speed by 2-3x. There will be some days when u will get all these other chars: the fan pally, amping necro, conc pally, and enchant, all in one game, and it will have all been worth it.

Wow, thanks for the response

I was more interested in PvP. I found that unfortunately strenght adds to barb damage, so I will have to use angelics to hit something (I thought I could get 300-400 dex thanks to BO and use dual 9min dmg rings).

As for warcry - I have a level 77 warcry barb, enough warcry for me for now :-)

it is dex. i have made a throwing barb, even written a guide. ww and throwing doesno t work unforuntanetly. frenzy is good to desynch and run fast from monsters, but when uve killed all the flallens n zombies u have to go ng. I didnt read wehat u writ but yeah use your head its simple. all vita n javelins are 15ed shopped harpoons.
