You know so far it seems to me and I'm unsure if I'm the only one experiencing this, but almost all of the West ladder players are either

A) New to Diablo, somehow
or
B) Completely unfriendly

I've met 3 people so far who are actually nice. Are all you nice people hiding in private games or something? It sucks too cause Classic is so much better than LoD.

The West community is FAR smaller than East. I myself play West, mostly because I get a choppy connection on the East servers. Generally people play East or Europe, and a lot of the people on West probably are new, cause they use the default server....

Which one would you recommend? I get decent enough ping on both.

Depends on what you want. Do you want a large community to play/trade with? Or do you want to play solo more often than not, and make the best of what you get in finds and limited trading?

Personally, I don't care either way, it would be nice if I could have access to the amount of trading that happens on East, but I am happy playing on West all the same.

I'd be very interested in a large community because when I solo all I gotta do is make a private game. :)

I play west, but only because west for me=400 ping, east=550+.

If you are newish in classic, maybe you are only playing normal/NM. here are far more experienced players in hell. The best way however, to meet mature, experienced, nice (as in, if a good item drops they will give it to you if needed etc.) is to play Hardcore. Pretty much no one is ultra-new (you have to beat the game in SC to play HC...), and most are nice, as the communityis so small you don't want to annoy anyone.

But the downside is...less than 5 games up at any time. Best to have a group of friends in a private game.

I think this is not really a "west" problem but more of the "classic" problem, lots of friendly non noob ppl on west lod, same as east, but classic is filled with new ppl or ppl who hate change and wont play lod and are stubborn, same with as east classic.....although classic east and west hc are very fun and every1 knows eachother like a small town o.o

My first experience in hell goes as follows

"show armor"
"eh...ok" (places sig plate in item trade, keep in mind i was lvl 45 and the maker of our Diablo run changed without us noticing, so me being in hell was an accident)
"LOL NUB. RE"

ugh...I found a few more friends though so I think I'll stick with west. Plus I got my barb up to 63 today and I do decent damage! :D

*DSZKilla_2327 if anyone wants to hit me up and we can play or something

as far as I noticed most players who start classic and especially classic NL are total newbies, who randomly unchecked the boxes while creating a character

I give them sigon armors to start with as incentives in hope that some of them will stay, because the community is pretty small (the good thing is that ladder has merged with non-ladder and new people came to play with; the problem is that ppl on europe NL have incredible dupes, which simply cannot be beaten.. - e.g. 233 +2 barb exec with -40req - such swords dont spawn anymore... so no one is willing to start europe NL. And I dont have the time to start from scratch)

Good players are usually in hell difficulty games, they often even level restrict they runs ( :( ), so that lower levels cant join.
People are assholes in general, especially in the interenets

if your sorc is wearing some bad armor (e.g. sigon's), ppl migh even refuse to trade with you, so beware (I knew a guy who made fun of such people, "begged" them to trade with him and the proceeded to show 20sojs..)

My classic Diablo II account is *MarieClaire (@USWEST)

Shoot you me a whisper if you want to game sometime. Just started out on classic, so I probably won't be as much help. I'm a nice person though. :)

It seems that when people get good gear they also get that "im better than everyone else" attitude. im in aus so i probably wont see alot of you but if anyone is up for some mfing/leveling feel free to add my account *bad.habit

Yeah, USwest ladder softcore, plus a little bit of HC west and east.

But I have crappy old computer, plus 40k dial-up, plus I can't go on the 'net much anyway so theres really not much point adding me. (*FullPlate) if you're still interested.

I only get to play decently online at my friends place, and have got a lvl 67 sorc mainly from playing there.

SinglePlayer is where it's at for me right now.

I'm playing SC UsWest, and about 70% of the people are mean. You just have to know the right people, and yes majority of them are hiding in private channels playing private games. I know this because I know alot of the higher ups on ladder, and get to play with them.

Do you know of any decent channels for CS runs? This is the single hardest thing for me to find.

There used to be alot of them, but as of now I can only think of Op cswalk and maybe some ppl still do cs runs in Op gfg-

I can help you cs some time if you want, *DiabloiiClassic my time on varies.

I agree, West Classic have a lot of poo-poo-heads. There are a LOT of random PKers, game raiders, beggars and people that will try to be your friend hoping to scam you later. Still, I had lots of fun on West Classic last season, and even got to #10 on Necro Ladder. I was so mad at the CS runs that I just decided to make a non-paladin char that could solo CS. I ended up hosting a popular CS run for a couple months an made friends that way, and I just corpse exploded and pkers.

What was that non-pally that could solo CS?

I came up with an idea, and tested it recently:
Zon with max Lightning Fury, and max Plauge Javelin/synergy. Max valk for tank and lite/psn immunes. Does 10k poison damage, 1-800 LF damage.

Needs duel soj's for mana/skills though, and godly resists on the boots/shield/helm (twitch and deaths take up the other slots, a +2 ammy is also almost necessary.). The +skills are for poison damage, with only a +1 ammy and rez rings you'll do 5-6k poison. Poison alone easily kills the LI pack, OK's are also easily killed with LF/poison. Easily solo CS material with good gear.

Hey do you remember a series of games called "Free Soj1", "Free Soj2", ect...
It was last season. My necro's name was Free_Soj and I was soloing CS while newbs were joining begging for free. Eventually people caught on to my idea and my run became pretty popular, but I attracted a LOT of pkers.

There used to be alot of them, but as of now I can only think of Op cswalk and maybe some ppl still do cs runs in Op gfg-

I can help you cs some time if you want, *DiabloiiClassic my time on varies.

Op cswalk peaked around November last year. It started because of pkers like Jiggy, Rune, Kira and Banme_moreplz and the need to go private to avoid them in early August. Too many ppl who went there weren't interested in cs walks, they wanted to blab and do mf and rush, rush, rush evermore new chars, a clan came in that had no where else to go, and many potential channel people were turned off and went elsewhere.

The duping, esp soj's last winter and the Baal runs then reduced the number of ppl interested in keeping up with the game. The new ladder caused that clan to make their own channel and they took some of our best channel members with them, well, most of the time they dont come by anymore. Another long time channel member went berserk one day, and was kicked. He then made alot of games with his loader like "WestMostNoobs" and such, got angry over the renewed baal runs and then went baaling himself. A meltdown.

Now, except for a couple hours a day, its a ghost town. Anyone can start up cs runs or walks, and there usually is a run going. But last June I remember it was typical to have 2 runs and as many as 3 walks going at once. Those days are gone....

I remember Damric and FreeSoj. But honestly, since former channel members like Dida(2nd top legit necro), and term zizzle(1st legit zon) and Haramee (8th necro this ladder), and Marik (top 20 necro), and Shave (top legit barb this ladder) have either quit the game or gone to LoD, there is every indication that the classic community has been irrepairably damaged.

I remember Banme_moreplz trying to pk my run a lot. He was easy to deal with via corpse explode.

Then I remember this real (insert bad word here) din called iDi. That guy must have kept a full inventory of full juvs.

I might make a comeback later this year if I am not too busy, and of course I'll host my own runs.

If people are still baaling in classic, that may discourage me.

The realm is pretty much wrecked. Alot of the best players are going, going, or long gone. I was just on a few min ago and saw only ONE hell run up, thats the same number as was up in nonladder, its after 1 am here now, Sunday night. There were 3 ppl in that game, two of them (former) channel members, I dont allow ppl in there who launch into Baal's.

Good luck if you come back, I'm desperately looking for a new game. It's amazing how ppl have managed to screw themselves in this game. Its not too far from seeing your tail on the ground and munching on it and keep on going. Or xeroxing money and expecting there to still be an economy.

After the realm split: ladder and nonladder, classic was hurt because it was so small already. Now, with ladder split up, the non-baalers are just taking a hike. Ladder just deserves to die now. I would vote to just wipe the whole past 2 months clean. Of course, they wont do that. Seems they wont do anything.

17-09-2007, 14:11
So you are playing ladder again? Or do you play cursesfearagain on nonladder?

What level are the baalers on classic ladder? Is it too late to make a legit run?

It will likely be 2 months or so before I get around to playing again cuz I'm in the middle of relocating with a new job.

I wish blizzard would merge the classic realms into 1 big realm

But I dont think it is possible, because the same servers are used for LOD

Sure, it's possible. Just input some code that allows classic to play on one realm only.

there would be some problems:
- people with the same acc names (just add @west or something to their names)
- lag (unsolvable? or perhaps the servers would just have "bridges" like the irc servers and show all games ("channels"))
- it actually requires huge input from blizzard ( :( )

Since conversion (buying and installing LoD) is very important, Blizzard wants you to be able to go into USwest LoD. That would be awkward if there were only one classic realm. ACtually they could combine all realms into one at this point, or 2 sets of them. I vote for USEast+West. They did it with Everquest, why wont lazy blizzard get around to it? No one in hardcore or classic will mind especially. Problem is addresses. Your name is an address on their server, I suppose and there will be duplicates and mixups, knowing Blizzard. They have had awful problems over the years with same name issues on different realms.

I've quit classic once for 3 months and once for 3 weeks. I'm about ready to do it again, its 3 months into the ladder and ladder will be for 6 months? Why bother... But I still do play, half and half nl and ladder, maybe one hour each daily. My main nl char is Tesla---- , on several times a week, I've got friends there.

Classic baalers. First off, most of the slow cs runners now are lvl 55-70 something. It's awful. Baalers, they are the higher levels. They used to be real high and then got the equipment to deal with it. Making a legit run only takes partying with one or two dedicated ppl who will stick with u for an hour or so, which is asking alot. Launching game out of same channel helps.

Two months or so...ha, whoop. If they reset Xmas holiday, why bother. I WILL NOT be making any more ladder chars with the baaling around the corner.

HellGate London release 10-31-07. Get ready.

huh? Was it mentioned somewhere that the ladder season will end in 3 months?

Fearlessone
22-09-2007, 10:49
It sure was. I think it was included in the June 21st announcement of a reset on June 25th 2007. They didn't say it strictly, but as a general guideline said they would take more care in the future to have them every 6 months. The first year of the game they did exactly that, but not afterwards. They had patches all throughout the first year, but rarely since then. If they have another reset, they will likely combine it with the patch they were talking about on the bnet forum a year ago this month. I would suppose they will just have more goodies for the LoD people, not us. Hopefully no more hardships, like the absurd 8 ppl in hell cs = 1 experience.

Five people have hit 99 in just less than 3 months on USWest LoD softcore ladder. Remember that Blizzard makes resets during the summer. It had patch 1.10 and a reset on Oct 28th 2003. There was a reset during Xmas break of 2000-2001, the first.

Reset dates:

June 2000 Game release
X-Mas 2000 1.04
June 25th 2001 LoD release 1.08
Oct 1st? 2001 1.09
Oct 28th 2003 patch 1.10
June ? 2004
Aug 8th 2005
June 25th 2007

actually, I think I will start playing ladder during the next reset, because IM sick of being OWNED in duels by people using dupes

it makes me really sad, when I've seen the legit BvBs attack 4v1 on a duped barb and the duped NL barb was winning easily :(

Instead of making a new thread, I figured posting a west realm question in a thread dedicated to west realm would be a wiser choice.

Any one on West lld? I got a lvl 29 dueling account and am currently making a lvl 12 dueling account.

I even made a normal mode andarial/mephisto glitcher just to mf lld gear.

If you LLD on softcore ladder please post account.
