View Full Version : Warlockcc's Tankyrie
For opening i have to say that i have been a bit bored and needed to make a character rarely seen on d2.
So i made a Tankyrie, which i believe Warlockcc introduced long ago on these forums. Anyway, the purpose was to make an NM-dueler, that is both uncommon and fun to mess around with.
Tankyrie is an Amazon that use Valkyrie as the main skill to kill opponents. It does not work on experienced players but at lv 54 i have killed many sorcs (30-65), many barbs and paladins (30-50) and even one 71 lv Bonemancer (many times the same mancer). The trick is that a 27 lv Valkyrie can spawn cold immune and extra fast. Notice also that at that level the Valkyrie has 650 ed on a random rare lance and has the benefit of critical strike you have on your Amazon as a synnergy. Many underestimate the damage potential and a 50 lv sorc can go down in 1 hit.
Stats, gear and skills...
Str Enough for silks
Dex&Energy none
Life rest
Gear is pretty easy to remember, since skills are all that matters. Mine uses Tarn, silks, +2 bow, +1 amu (not level 67 and not going to level there),2 sojs ,no boots, belt 19 str 58 life (4 rows of mana pots) and gloves with 9 str.
That gets my valk to level 27 with 4450 hitpoints.
Skills Max valk, max decoy , 20 to crit after +levels, 1 in penetrate, rest is put to evade dodge and evasion...
Anyway, its a novelty char that will never die in nm duels, since u dont have to go out of town to spawn valkyrie outside... (Maybe you can be killed with the enchanted mercenary bug, when mercenary fires arrow towards skeleton and the bridge and mancer terminates the skellie before its hit and the arrow continues to town and kills. Maybe its patched nowadays. Not sure)
Anyway, everyone will call you a noob and chicken if u dont go out (which u can if u bother to wear boots with 30 frw. Just put culwens in one arm and sigs shield in another to maintain + skill level. With nice block and good evasion etc combined with nice life u can tank pretty much), but thats their problem. Its allways fun when your lousy valk pops some naab in 1 hit.
I tend to sit in nm duel game (pray that no fohher comes around or high level barb) go just to the edge of town and cast valk out. If i get bored, i just let the ama be in game with the valk outside and glitch memph in another game and check on her progress in between the mf games...

At level 27, you have one very solid tankyre.
Mana cost: 51
Cast Delay: 6 Seconds
Attack Rating: +1120%
Resist lightning/cold/fire: 85%
Strenght: 675
Dexterity: 324
Defense: +260%
Dodge: 7
Avoid: 7
Evade: 7
Critical Strike: 20
Hit Points: +920%
Item lvl: 103
[Synergy] Decoy: +40% All Resistances (2% / Lvl)
[Synergy] Decoy: +400% Hit Points (20% / Lvl)
[Synergy] Penetrate: +40% Attack Rating (40% / Lvl)
[Synergy] Dodge: +7 Dodge (1 / Lvl)
[Synergy] Avoid: +7 Avoid (1 / Lvl)
[Synergy] Evade: +7 Evade (1 / Lvl)
[Synergy] Critical Strike: +20 Critical Strike (1 / Lvl)
Damagewise, I think the 700 str helps.
Might be worthwhile to check if you can namelock somebody, because that would have the valk appear next to them for aslong as you have them namelocked. With the casting delay being 6 seconds or so, the valk would have ample time to take a jab at the target.
Yes the Valkyrie is a very solid tank. Last night harvested a deacent amount of ears. Its like using a fish trap to lure innocent sorcers to an early grave. Had a pretty nice spawn too. Both cold and lightning immune with some speed and a black lance.
Anyway, since not very many got interested on the novelty char. I decided to make a twin for her and party them in duel games

Lol, if you really wanted to piss people off you could summon her then switch to a poison/cold bow and cleg gloves and shoot people ><

Splendid idea! Hmm, I could use my pvp zon for it thought. Just unequip my 14x 20 ias gothic (still waiting for Monzees runebow. Found my own 99 dmg rune but had only 10 ias) and use roques with clegs to slow people and not hurting them in the same process. Or maybe Frostzealot that just runs around with cold aura, while 2 valkyries do their grim job of annoying people :wink2:
Anyway, second Tancyrie should be up and running tomorrow if not today. Just need to strip my other chars from their sojs and dont know if i have heart to do it. Maybe just going to have to use a 25 lv valkyrie with the second Tankyrie.

I wonder how godly a valk could be if you chanted it, had a barb bo it, might, fanat, and conc (or at least some of them). Maybe you could pk a high level room with it xP
HMm. This is growing way out of the proportion it was intended. Enching is too much team dueling (which i hate). Besides, the fun part of the build is that Valkyrie can kill on its own and no-one expects it. Maybe i just need to stick to having 2 valks and a barb in game. Otherwise i soon have eight chars of my own in the same 'duel'game and no opponents to kill :embarassed:

Hehe when I first saw this thread I was like; this must be one of those chars comparable to woestaves barbs
But having read the whole thing I'm now starting to gain interest in one of these chars though I don't have the sojs needed atm and too many other chars in the making.
@ Lorg - About the runebow I'm still holding it for whenever you want it. Only stuck on a mule and I am no accepting other offers eventhough a guy offered me soj + add last night.

Don't get carried along Monzee, because your initial assessment was very accurate. Tankyrie falls in the same category as the woestave barb. So they are not that good. Just something different.
The runebow is nice and soj+ for it is a good offer. Yesterday i placed the 180 ed bh on trade and got lots of soj+ offers from it. None wanted to pay 2 sojs for it thought but some offered soj and a rare that allmost could get a soj. Anyway, im offering that bh for your Runebow. They seem to be in the same price range... I know that you have a deacent bh allready, but if you want to build bvb extra dmg does not hurt
Im online today after work (not sure when i can leave the office)...

My Woebarb was godly, and never lost a duel to a bh barb.
Valks are tough with all those immunities, but I have more success with shadow masters in LoD.

My Valkazon is level 42 at the moment, her level 15 valk seems to be totally immune to cows (e.g. 20 cows can swarm her and she will survive, not sure if she can slowly kill them though). Her problem is her low damage!!! Even with enchant she needs few hits to kill a cow (around 3).
I figured out she needs more critical strike, or perhaps should I add into penetrate? She seems to miss a lot... (currently 4 in penetrate, I think that;s too much)

I have just started playing a kind of Valkazon in singleplayer. Except I'm playing HC, and I'm actually playing a build called the tankazon. A tankazon is, well, tanky (good block, life, passive dodges). Tankazons do not use bows/spears/javelins. They use daggers/swords/exes/maces/polearms combined with good critical strike to kill. They only put points in the passive and magic tree.
I turned it into a tournament, in the singleplayer forum. If anyone is interested, take a look.

You could join the tournament if you wanted, the more people the merrier...

You thread necro. :)
I'm not sure about why his Woebarb was/is godly.
I would think the cold damage and the slow on the woe make it easier to range targets with your range 5 woe. Add to that the open wounds and you have a nice recipe on your hands.
so it wasnt the actual gear, but how he used him in dueling...
man i need to practice. i cant manage to make my woe barb godly.
Well, you should not take his claim 'never lost to a bh barb' literally. I'm sure he lost duels the them. According to him knockback, slow and cold dmg (bh barbs are usually bvb so they do not have inc. speed, which helps also) makes it eazy to avoid them, while occasionally nick in a hit that triggers crushing blow and bleed to suck them dry. Needless to say that some unfortunate lag will kill the woebarb fast. Anyway the bh bvb char can just change to a martel and demolish the woebarb if he wants to (and has the needed str). And usually they do want to. Not so 'easy' to range 5 vs 3 as 5 vs 1
Its fun build thought
Lorg you are right. Lag definitely screws my woebarb, because I am very dependent on precise movements. Also switching to a martel does better the odds of a bh barb vs my woe barb significantly.
But yeah, outranging a bh barb and bleeding him to death with my woe is a beloved pastime ;)

Do they try to do anything about the cold damage ? Like put on some anti-freeze gear. Or do they just try to run around at a snail's pace ? :)
never really noticed that the cold was significant or maybe it just doesnt last long enough to notice. I do hear a lot of complaints about the slow, especially from desynch-charging-hammerdins.

My Valkirie is now level 69 with level 26 valk, but I wonder if the +skills work for valk synergies (e.g. +6 evade from items - only for me or for valk too?). It especially applies to critical strike - currently 10, because Ive put few points into arrow skills. Using cleglaws/rogue bow/boneflesh for slow/CB doesnt seem to work :/ (I need to mule a howltusk and do some tests vs barbs tho).
Valk has 4400 life now and sometimes spawns ice/light immune (or even both). I can irritate the sorcs/javazons, but it's a good idea to stand in town. Barbs kill the valk easily.
I was asked if I could bring a thorns palladin to help my valk. The idea is that the palladin would have 20points into thorns (I would add him some +skill items, e.g. silks/tarn/+2shield/+2weapon etc), but I wonder if it is worth the effort.
1) Im not sure if his aura would work, if he stood in town (the valk would be outside wreaking havoc :) )?
2) Im not sure if the damage returned for PvP chars could at least hurt them (say the barb would die after WWing the valk 2-3 times or something)
3) I wonder if +2 pala +throns weapons can be shopped
Now I only know that "thorns suck" and if they worked, people would actually use them.

Yes, it will work while the pala is in town, as long as he is near the entrance.
PvP people just appear to take far too little damage from the thorns aura(since that is the aura on the Iron Golem aswel). Remind me next time and I'll show my Iron Golem necro. He has a level 32 Iron Golem and barbs tend to hardly be affected by him(my golem). in 1.09 they died on him(my golem) in a single WW. cept for the lifebarbs.

My tankyrie's main purpose is to annoy farcastingbugzons. Killing sorcs is just a bonus. I often bring one to duel game and hostile it only vs bugzon if they present. And then switch to the char i actively want to pvp with.
Anyway, instead of thornadin, you could allways use necro with im. Just cast Valk out until its immune with extra speed and black lance, switch to necro and im barbs when they start to ww. Bit lame thought. I have used 2 palas in party. Other with vigor and the other with concentration nice extra dmg. With critical hit even some barbs go down before they take it seriously... Anyway, that takes 3 slots out of 8 and pretty soon the game is empty or filled with cb barbs... 2 Tankyries is a nice obtion too...
