I found this pike and wonderend if its good for lld:

shadow scourge pike: 27-118 dmg
69% ed, adds 4-12 dmg, 26 ar + knockback lvl 14 req

Yes, that is a very nice pike.

If you go for level 15 you could wear full Iratha's. Bessides the 65 res all, it'll also give you 25 dex, which really helps to wear that pike. Offcourse the 20frw helps you move around faster when you are not charging.
Probably best to wear angelic armor and 2 angelic rings. You'll have to try and squeeze as much res as possible from your boots, so go gamble some boots until you find boots which have res(3 different res would offcourse be ideal) of at least 20. You may want to gamble those boots with a level 25-ish character, since gambling is cheap at that level and you should be able to get the res mods you want. Meaning more chance to get those. Best verify this level with Orphan's list in the FAQ sticky.

thanks for the reply, I think I`ll try to sell it though :) If no one buys it I`ll make the lld charger.

It would be hard selling it, they can have 90 ed at that lvl (although the +min-max is nice)

I found a 120 ed hachet with lvl 19 req and 4 min dmg and 20 ias and the best I got offered was a gskin.

Decent pike, Think about what else you can make with this before a charger, They get very boring :D


I found my ideal pike on ehccl, 101 dmg level 9.

All he wanted was one of my gulls, I want this so bad on sc -.-

Sometimes items like this come your way, and you gotta do something with it. Personally, I'm not planning on LLD this ladder...maybe down the road, but not yet. It's up for trade I suppose.

That depends on what you want from your LLD. I've had experiences using a Maul and a Pike, both with IAS and without IAS. It really depends on the mods on each weapon, and it's not just the damage alone that will decide if you have a decent LLD or not.

If I had to pick which weapon to use on my LLD, I'd probably end up using the Pike because of it's range and the ability to have more life. Maul LLDs do more damage, but they don't last very long due to low life.

The damage output on a pike is really, really random IMO.
For example my level 12 charger using pike can deal between 200 to 1200 damage (not sure about the exact numbers, probably a bit less).

My level 14 charger, has a minimum damage of 600...

In life, only Murphy's laws will not fail you - i.e. you always to the minimum damage and they always do the maximum damage :) That's why Id rather stick with a 500+ minimum damage maul, than a pike with totally random damage output.

Also remember, that most chars can block your hit. So you need to hit them few times to kill them - it even lowers your chance of a "1200 dmg hit" and increases your chance of a "200 dmg hit".
With maul, when you hit you always do at least twice as high damage.

IMO it's the damage, because according to my experience (I havent duelled a decent necro or amazon though) - every other character is inferiour to a charger.
Charge vs charge you use shields anyway, otherwise it's always 2hit KO according to what I have experienced (usually the one who hits first wins due to knockback).

I have a 96 max dmg maul with -20req, which requires 80strenght. As far as I remember a pike requires 60str and 45 dex. You get 10 dex from angelics though, so you need to put 10 dex on your pally (not sure, perhaps 15?), so it's 10 less vitality for a maul pally.
Of course the odds of finding such a maul are slim...

Of course other mods cant be neglected (e.g. cold damage, AR), but damagewise, I really dislike the randomness of pikes, which makes my unlucky pike-charger not too good.

As for the range? I never experienced problems with that (most smiters use gnashers or blood crescents from my experiance).

Btw. do you use sigon's gloves on your pike charger? This is the biggest drawback of a maul charger - you need them..

You can do some things with a pike you can't with a maul, I thought we were talking about general LLD, Chargers are lame.
