I've been watching a documentary series about a British couple that have sold up everything and moved to the continent to build a hotel. After a false start they finally found a chateau in Slovakia and have started getting it prepared for guests.

Being a 300 year old building it is in need of some repairs so they have a crew of workmen doing things like fixing the roof. There was a fresco in one of the rooms that caused the Slovak Heritage Ministry to call a halt on building until certain precautions had been taken, so the couple went off on a two week holiday to Tunisia. In the latest episode they got a fax telling them that the foreman had gone ahead and and was removing the roof. The couple flew back to Slovakia in fear that the government was going to sue them or something, only to find out that while they were away the foreman had done some wining and dining and had got the Ministry to agree to limited works.

As a thank you to the foreman for getting the work back on track the couple decided to buy the foreman a gift to say thank you. So the wife goes shopping and decided she'd buy the foreman's girlfriend some sexy knickers reasoning that that would lead to a good reward from her. So she gives him the knickers and he politely thanks her and the British couple go about their business.

Later on we see a conversation with the foreman and one of his workers. He doesn't understand the gift. He pulls the knickers out of his pocket and shows the workman and says something like "She gave me knickers, I don't understand." They try to work it out and eventually come to the conclusion that the knickers must be for the foreman to wear, because the workman heard that David Beckham sometimes wears Victoria's knickers for "comfort". The foreman decides that must be it, puts the knickers back in his pocket, says something about strange British customs and goes back to work.

At least we haven't renamed thongs as "flip-flops" and g-strings as thongs...

g-string != thong, two very different things.
