View Full Version : having trouble on which class to use

Hi, I have played Diablo since classic, I just now have begun playing again after a long two years away from the game. I'm having trouble deciding what to play for exclusive private 1vs1 duels. I play very offensively and so far my choices in order of what looks interesting are-
1- Ghost sin(or a kicker/ww hybrid?)
2- Liberator
3- V / T
4- BvC
Was wondering if some experienced players could possibly list the pros and cons of each of these builds, and maybe list what builds they shine against, and what builds give them a hard time. This is for 1vs1 GM only dueling. So I won't be using stacked absorbs, wont be teleporting around a lot(more or less just using as a escape / tactical spell).

So I won't be using stacked absorbs, wont be teleporting around a lot(more or less just using as a escape / tactical spell).imo the most offensive of all these chars is the liberator
liberator can have max block and dr, huge 1 hit dmg, pretty decent hammer dmg
bvc ofc has great attack , but requires more careful play vs almost anything that has block +dr
Ghost are great chars due to the fact they can block almost anything, at the same time ustilize ww and have help from
mb/fow/light traps so these would be the second most offensive char from your list.
V/t well considering the fact that any decent dueler would have enough stack to negate for to puny dmg lvls, you are left with a smiter pretty much. while smiters have advantages , you will never beat pure smiter/hammerdin/any hammer variant a good barb will beat you too.
so my list in order of how offensive you can go on a char would be
libby
ghost
bvc
v/t
1. weak against barbs. takes long to take down all kinds of paladins. very strong against pretty much any caster type. can take advantage of poison and physical damage, as well as high % open wounds(and light/fire if hybridized). not easy to play, many hotkeys. rarely any gear swapping required which is comfortable. clawblock is a great skill that blocks anything except for area spells.
does damage over time, which means that you cannot really 1v7 pub games, but for 1v1s they do very well.
2. magic and physical damage cannot be negated. desync is a great weapon. good casters with maxblock can be annoying. assassins can be annoying because of heavy stun. got problems against good windies, assassins, bvcs.
3. light and physical damage. strong ranged and melee. few weaknesses only (stacking hammerdin, good necro, ele druid). only very low foh damage if your opponent stacks light res. can take advantage of desync (like all paladins ^_^).
4. hits very hard. takes long time to master whirlwind. long or uncontrolled whirlwinds often mean sudden death. many possibilities to switch gear against certain opponents (i.e. stacking and gm sorbing gear).
very good caster killer and fun to duel them. IMO boring duels against all paladin types.
almost no chance against barbs that wear a shield.
This is just a short summary and impressions I got of those chars.
All of the 4 chars can kill almost every class/char in a gm 1v1 if you are good and got only few weaknesses.
I have had all 4 of those and I personally prefer ghostsin or hybrid ww/ls sin. I simply enjoy them the most and I'm best at them. It's amazing to have so many hotkeys and to use so many different skills. I don't like it when I can only tele, leap and whirl, for example (I know it's not that easy but you get me I hope).
I dislike hammerdins, probably because they are so common nowadays.
I would put them into the following order, with 1 being the most fun:
1. ghost/hybridsin
2./3. bvc/vt. I cannot decide which I like more.
4. libby

Hot keys aren't a problem at all, I'm in a 1800 5vs5 on world of warcraft. I use probably around 40 hot keys on my character. A ghost or kick /ww hybrid / libby are the ones that are sounding the best to me.

Ghost is really really fun, plus there are two quality guides in the sin forum that lay out EVERYTHING to get you started.

i've read them, thats where i got the urge to make a ghost from. :azn:
alright, my two choices off of your list that i think you should make are, bvc, and ghost.. they are similar i know but i'll tell the diffrences
Barbs deal in pure damage, were as a ghost kills by posion+ow+mb etc, imo ghosts are the better of the choice if you are just 1v1ing.. if your fun pking+tpking+pub games i'd rather have a barb. but if your just 1v1ing ghost is the way to go, the only thing they cannot kill if your good is most barbs.. but other then that there awsome.
also check out the cool pvp video thread, it has some great ghost videos, i mainly watch happyassassin's ghost videos ^^ he's very good and you can learn alot from him. or if you go bvc, search for Smash(mcm375) on youtube.
For pubs; V/T or libby are your best bets, followed by BvC. Ghost is great 1vs1, but takes so long to master.
I like Libby the best out of those. Consider a mage as well.

V/T's are fun! People who stack res will have to lose out on their gear switches or charm selection. Not to mention you can make a V/T be JUST as good as a pure smiter in smite vs. smite duels, but make the other pally wear res. In smite vs. smite all you need is holyshield, smite, and fanat, all of which you can max as a v/t.
And v/t's I think are sexy and are probably the rarest of the builds you mentioned as ghosts and bvcs have gotten extremely popular nowadays. A good v/t has good odds at beating almost any class. If you fight people who don't have access to the best of gear, then T/V is easier, but generally going V/t (more smite oriented) is the most popular route.

I'd go liberator. Maybe because I <3 libbys... But that's besides the point. All in all the liberator has the least weaknesses as far as I can see. You'll be able to stack enough resistances vs. Cold & Light without having to sacrifice damage. Charge is one of the most effective caster killing skills IMO. You'll have a decent smite with Grief. And hammers doing 8k+ with decent gear.
My libby went for high survivability and lower fcr breakpoints (48%FCR iirc) and did plenty fine with desynch and smite as another skill to fall back on.
Liberator takes my vote, with ghost and v/t tied for 2nd.

I think a Hammerdin would do better than a Liberator.

You'd be surprised. Versus alot of classes, unless your namelocking abilities are very good, charge is more useful than hammers. Maybe my namelocking skills are under average but that's just my opinion. ;)
