View Full Version : What's a good two-player party to start with?

My roommate and I want to start up some D2 characters. We'll probably LAN up so we'll be untwinked. What are some good two-player class combinations to play? Or, if he already has a character in mind, what are my options? Thanks.

One physical and one magick (fire, ice, light, magic) ftw. There's too much possible details to give more info. You can fill it in for yourself. It largely depends on how wealthy you are, though.

I think I'd be dirt poor. I'm more into just playing one character and using whatever I find, rather than running bosses for items and then transferring them.

Most characters can work together, obviously just avoid overlapping your strong points:

Light java + light sorc = bad idea (both will struggle against LI)
summoning druid + summoning necro = bad idea (why use two characters to summon tanks?)

etc

Just think about the possible combinations biased on each characters abilities. Belove I've listed some that I guess would be useful in a untwinked environment.

necro: summons, curses (-res among other), CE
sorc: elemental damage, teleport, static field, enchant
assassin: shadow, traps (inc CE), MB, CoS
paladin: auras, magic damage (hammer)
barb: battle orders
amazon: lightning or cold damage, valkyrie, pierce
druid: summons, fire/physical spells

I don't play barbs much  ...

He wants to play a Paladin - Sorc combo. I think I'll be the Paladin... What builds are good untwinked? I know the Hammerdin is good. Anything else?

If you have a team of 2 sorceresses each specializing in a different element, you will kill 99 of the things efficiently and will be able to do mf runs with lightning speed, but you will lack a tank other than your mercs.
On the other hand, if one of your characters is devoted to tanking and the other is devoted to dealing out damage like skellimancer and hammerdin, you won't be as fast but you will be much safer. It's your call really, what kind of playing style you like. Any two effective characters will make good teams as long as they are not something like cold sorc/cold sorc. Personally, I think trapsin and skellymancer would make a fun team.

Well untwinked a Frost Zealot would work rather well, as your damage comes from Cold effect.

If it is a Sorceress/Paladin combo you could go with a Lightning sorceress and a Paladin Avenger (Conviction aura). Your Paladin will make the sorceresses spells much more effective with Conviction and can tank very well with the help of Holy Shield.

I think Pallys and Necros have the best potential for synergy with auras and curses making the other player far more effective.

Two very effective options that come to mind:
Conviction Pally + Lightning Sorc
Fanatic Zealot Pally + Necro Summoner
