I was looking through the MP forum earlier and noticed a pvp thread but never see postings on it. Also I read people talking of PvP gear in the trade forum. So my question is out of everyone who enjoys MP play, how many of you actually build PvP characters

exactly 9 people.

9 people would be worth a PvP character for me

Be careful around PvP'ers, they beg you poor so they can get all your 1337 itamz :hide:

I'm working on building up some PvP characters, it seems the natural next step given I don't intend on going for a Grail or an L99.

@ Nazdakka me either and On b.net I loved to pvp I like mp here much better so was hoping there would be some around who like pvp seems a pretty good test of ones skills to see how they do against another player you have 3 lvls of 5 acts so at some point a change like pvp would be nice IMO

I'm stockpiling kit for a few builds. I want to complete my sept first though before I start my PvP characters. Biggest trouble Ii have is that I guarantee I will suck at it. That and co-ordinating a time to play.

How about another batch of n00bs introduction to PvP lessons? I will have time over the next few weeks and I'm sure I could rush a few characters up.

I've got a few PvP chars. I'm not very good though.

And I agree; they're a dying breed. The good news is, it's the rich ones who are leaving.

While I'm here, can one of you nine PvPer clarify something for me?
Do you normally play BM or GM rules? From most of the tourneys & posts I see it seems GM is unusual.

If it is BM I may have a char or two ready for someone to cut ears from

I'm not sure if I'm included among those nine, but as far as I know it is usually BM dueling. I prefer BM as well even though I don't have 'nigma and so. But I must say I've never participated in GM duel yet.

I hope that after summer holiday will be more life in PvP thread .

Who are these 9? Are they any good?

Dueling sounds might interesting, knocking heads of opposing players instead of monsters. Character death screams are sweet sounding when they are not your own.

well now I need to decide wich dueling build to go with first

In BM dueling, what isn't allowed? I highly doubt it's anything goes.

If you look in the FAQ there's a link to "THE ULTIMATE PVP GUIDE"... i'd be willing to bet the info you're seeking is in there.

Major differences between GM with reference to BM are:
- Banning Teleport, Knockback, Blessed Hammers with Concentration, 110 FRW limit. GM are usually better for newer players.

I stopped pvping with the spf community years ago since I was one of the few duelers without enigma, ebot'd weapons, cta on switch etc...

I'm not accusing anyone of cheating, but most of you guys should stick to open bnet.

And what about for example Dracul's Grasp. Are it allowed in BM duels? There is CtC so it could be, but I've never seen it in moor. On the other side this is not ideal gloves for PvP, I know.

Edit
@barren: I don't think that Enigma is the most important thing in PvP, I'm quite content without it.

Dracul's Grasp are allowed in BM duels. It's actually a pretty good pair of gloves for melee, +15 str for more life, 25% Open wounds and CTC Life Tap.

See sig.

@Barren - that's the same accusation you made in my Tourney. If you feel someone is cheating, don't MP/trade with them and alert a Mod.

@barren: If you have some proof or evidence that someone is cheating, please PM Hrus or I about it. Otherwise, making groundless accusations is flamebait, and I've given you an infraction for your post. If you have any further questions, PM me.

Thy: I've read that several times over. I was just curious as to what the SPF BM duels allowed in comparison to GM duels.

Deaddave

basicly in bm o skills are allowed (such as teleport of enigma, bo from ctas and such)

teleport are allowed to be used from charges, things like ctc life tap from dracs and amp (but amps still on the very edge of being alowed) decrep is still a big nono. the frw cap is lifted... i cant actuly think of anything else..

So According to the ultimate PvP guide Gm takes a bit more of the fun out of it. Or adds fun according to perspective. Thank you Sir for letting me know where to look lots of good stuff in there

Dracul's only used for life tap.

Life Tap is the safety net of poor skill. An entire string of poor play can be made up in 1 or 2 hits.

I agree.

A few years ago when I dueled with the SPF I remember GM duels were more fun because it was a more level playing field, it didn't depend on who had what runewords.

@TouchOfInsanity: If you want a little more info, the first post of the PvP thread (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=563003) lists some of the common BM and GM rules. They are of course subject to change and evolution, but that's just he nature of things.

Sorry for the double post but I have two more questions: Is Insight on switch allowed and do most of you prebuff?

sequana
14-08-2007, 19:03
I would have also question about pre-buffing, concrete question: I have frozen orb/thunder storm sorc. Can I put sparkling skillers into inventory, then go out of town, cast TS, retrn back and replace sparkling skillers by chilling skillers? Or prebuffing can be done only in town?

Deaddave
14-08-2007, 19:52
the insight on switch is ok in most cases, sometimes best just to double cheak with the people in game if its kool with them or not (as long as your not something like an es sorc or somin

all prebuffing is alowed, just try to have to bigger prebuff time (ie switch a few items around rather than having 2 totaly differnt gear sets (ie one for the duel one just for prebuff). although you would be in the rules to do so, it just gets fustrating for who ever your dueling to wait 2-3 mins between each duel while you prebuff

Sint Nikolaas

The main problem with insight on switch is that you won't have CtA on switch. If your duels tend to last a bit your BO might run out and leave you with significant less life. You can also opt for not going with CtA (maybe because you don't have it) so you don't have to worry about that life drop.

I also miss the GM times. I always give the example of my Frenzy barb taking on Boddah_Kahn's Fireclaw bear, only to get owned by Strijdje's Throwbarb. Amusing times...

The prospect of getting into PvPing with the SPFers is rather tempting but I don't know yet. I'm moving out with my GF in a few months and I know I'll have an absurd amount of time on my hands. I could either A, get into an MMORPG, more than likely being WoW or Legions 2; B, start over in v1.07 (I wouldn't be losing much) and try to rack run for their goodies; C, start over in v1.09 for HRs to make the few elite RWs I want, 'Nigma (I cannot stand Sorcs as MFers but Teleport is too good to go without) CoH, CtA and a few others. I'd stick with D2 but I fear we may lose a lot of members to Hellgate London. I also forgot to mention that WoW/Legions 2 would take a better system than what I'm currently using which would set me back several hundred U.S. dollars to upgrade. :sad2:

I'm leaning towards starting over in v1.07 for the goodies, upgrading them to v1.09 for HRs and then eventually upgrading it all to v1.11 to build a PvP character or more but that would be many, many months of work and I'm worried that it would go to waste if the community disappears.

Edit: Sorry for hijacking and off-topic(ness).

It seems to me that hijacking this for a quick question is better than starting a thread for it. I hope nobody minds.

Are Dracul's allowed on GM pvp WW barbs? (If you didn't know, ctc life tap doesn't trigger on WW)

yes they are

I suppose you have to make sure you don't trigger Life Tap with a misclick WW.
