Welcome to the forums.

I'd start by just picking a class that looks interesting, and just have at it. Read some guides to get a basic idea of skills and stats displacement. Don't worry about mistakes at this point; you'll learn as time goes on.

Build a MF cold Sorceress and farm Hell Mephisto (using the Moat Trick if you have troubles) until you have blisters on your fingers or your mouse breaks into pieces  !

Meh - start off with a healadin and come to my uber trist games - I can use the help ^_^. Or ditto Evrae and play whatever suits your fancy. Lots of folks start with mf meteorbs or cold sorcs (Socialism has an excellent Hell Meph mfer build in the sorc forums). Skellimancers are easy starter characters too.

Prolly the main difference since then are synergies and new items. Pay attention to synergies closely if you don't want to fail miserably at your char :) If you think you are up to it, you can start by making something like meteorb or fishymancer to start out with. It might be a good idea to just make a character to run though normal difficulty to get an idea though. Those characters make great mules too :)

Hey, if you're going to make a mule, definitely play through Hell. Even if you can't kill anyone in hell, try to find games that can advance you though (or pay folks in the trade forums 10 gems or so for a rush- like me ^_^). There's a number of reasons for this. You'll get a Hell mule with which you can stash keys, annis, torches, and items you find when mfing in hell (if you don't want to have to create a new normal difficulty game, etc...). Also, you can get the Hell difficulty forge quest, which is easily one of the best places to build wealth (good chances of a Pul to a Gul drop--very valuable!!). Good luck!!!
