View Full Version : Carin Shard: When u cant decide AOKL or HOTO,

Its essentially 1/1000 the cost of a HOTO, and even makes AOKL looks cheap. Ever since ladder reset, i've been using it and i have to say im a convert. Its massively underrated, but I'll explain why its a massive wand.

Carin Shard
+50% Damage To Undead
+ (1.25 Per Character Level) 1-123 To Mana (Based On Character Level)
+ (1.25 Per Character Level) 1-123 To Life (Based On Character Level)
+1 To Necromancer Skill Levels
+2 To Summoning Skills (Necromancer Only)
10% Faster Cast Rate
30% Faster Hit Recovery
Replenish Life +5

VS AOKL:
You lose about 1 or 2 skill pts for your skellies and CE, but u actually gain 1 for revives and 1 for curses. Its no big deal, some people will lose 1 skelly and 1 mage, some others wont even lose a single one. U get slightly less damage per skelly.
However, most summoners kill using
1) massive merc dmg
2) CE once the first corpse is down
Therefore, 1 missing skellies and a few pts less dmg wont make a noticeable difference at all.
What is has over AOKL and also HOTO is this godly mod:

where life scs and skillers are so highly rated, im surprised this mod doesnt catch attention. It gives more than 100+ life by end-game, which is really massive. Also,
30% Faster Hit Recovery
why pass a 30fhr on a weapon? if the rest of your gear doesnt have fhr, 30fhr will definately be a massive boost.
And probably a life saver, NO CTC BONE PRISON! no more stupid deaths stuck in a prison with a stygian doll.


Vs HOTO:
Resist, Skills, Massive FCR, mana, dex, this thing has all of them.
However, its very expensive, and the carin shard is actually comparable. Take a look.
U lose some skills in curses and CE, but Carin is equal when u compare summoning tree.
If u trying to reach the highest breakpoints, HOTO will do it for u, but 75fcr is very achievable with carin, i use fcr circlet, trangs glove, arachnids and fcr ammy to hit the BP.
For mana purpose HOTO actually loses to carin unless u already have 1000 mana to begin with. =p
What carin loses in resists, it makes up in the massive life added in my opinion.
For the wealthier few, take advantage for the fact carin can be socketed, add a gg jewel in, it could be str/dex/resists/life, anything helps. For starters try a 15res all jewel, it wont cost more than um rune.


As for the last and coolest reason:
The blue wand makes your necro looks much better, cooler and sexier. Carry it and see for yourself.

I vote for Carin Shard, too. It's what my Summonancer uses, with AoKL on switch. If I were forced to choose between the two, I'd keep my 'Shard. :thumbsup:

My HC-Summoner last ladder used Carin Shard all the way. Hoto was to expensive and I would rather have gone without weapon than using AOKL on a HC-Summoner that canīt teleport.

My old ladder necro used this wand as well . I wish Id find one this new ladder season ...

Cairn Shard is a nice wand, but Leoric blows it to bits. The increased +2 to mastery and skeletons can make all the difference in the world against Diablo Clone and conviction bosses.

I can't agree that "massive merc dmg" is how most summoners get kills, the mercenary is just one soldier in a sea of units.

Honestly, I will never use AoKL except to prebuff summons, the same reason that I will never use Occy.

I'm using an upgraded Ghost Wand Carin Shard, planning to put a 5/5 Fire Die to synergize Corpse Explosion + Elemental Damage or a Eld Rune (+75% Damage to Undead +50 Attack Rating) for a total of +125% Damage to Undead.

My build is melee.. so trouble arises when there is Iron Maiden from Oblivion Knights. Using a low-physical damage wand that has either a hidden +Physical bonus or a elemental bonus seems to be the best way of overcoming the Knights short from me doing nothing at all and just standing there.
