Question about my sorc...

Okay I know this isn't exactly a sorc question, but I now have a full tal's set (found ammy off of meph, and armor off of some unique in the mausoleum LMAO). My shield is spirit, with a +40 light res/22 fire res/19 mf boots and chancies. My two rings are a 16 absorb/12 MF wisp projector (for which I traded mal and p topaz'd skullders) and a BK ring.

With 75 lightning resist AND 16 lightning absorb, I'm STILL taking lightning damage. By my calculations, shouldn't it be 75 resistance +16% absorb to "negate" the next 16% damage from lightning? Yet when I stood in the charged bolts of some horror mages in WSK3, I STILL took damage.

I traded quite a bit for the wisp projector and I was hoping that it'd make me be able to laugh down the GG souls in the WSK. Now I'm stumped. Why am I still taking damage?

No ES. I have 75 light res and a 16% absorb wisp projector. Why do I take damage from lightning?

Res Comes before % absorb, and the % absorb only absorbs whats left after res. For instance, if u were to take 100 lightning dmg with 75 lite res and 16%lite absorb, ur res will first reduce the dmg to 25, then the 16% absorb will be applied, hence u'll absorb 4 lite dmg and take 21, which means u'll lose 17 life, since the 4 lite dmg heals u first(assuming u dont have full hp). With that said, % absorb is, imo, obsolete in pvm when u have decent res. It is, however, excellent in pvp, where we're talkin about 10k-50k+ elemental dmg.

Percentage absorb will never completely negate damage since it's capped at 40%; you'd need to get at least 50% absorb to negate damage.

The way to negate damage is with high resists and straight absorb (not percentage).

If the souls are convict you may want to stack your light resist.

I find Tgod to be way more effective than Wisp.

Not to say you will become immune but it does help alot. Try it.

No TGods because I'm a full Tals sorc. I have 75 resist and a 16% wisp ring. Somehow I still think the souls one will one-volley me, and if not one, then two volley :(
