Need meph advice

I have a lvl 74 pure blizzard sorc right now, with an isight merc, and i cannot for the life of me kill hell mephisto :cry: I have a 34 spirit sword, lidless wall, and a rare fcr ring, so I'm pretty sure im past the cast breakpoint. I can get to him just fine, and i can get his health almost down to 1/4 but he just always kills me and my merc before we can finish him off. Does anyone have any advice for killing him? Should I be a higher level before I try tackling hell meph?

But anyway. Moat trick is the way to go. Tanking meph is hard without very good gear, and mercenaries can die even at levels 90+ due to how hard bosses hit them.
The Moat Trick: teleport to Durance Level 3. Dont bring your merc. teleport up to Mephisto quickly, hopefully without attracting the attention of any council members. Then teleport to below where the portal to hell is. (the left path that eventually curves around to where Mephisto is). You should be out of view of any council members/blood lords. Mephisto should follow you, getting stuck on the little stairs behind the lava, or possibly on the dais next to the portal. Back up so that mephisto does not cast anything at you, and blast away. He should fall quickly.

For ease, check out this picture: http://infoceptor.net/strategy/diablo2/walkthrough/mission20/map1.gif. You should end up casting at him from where the letter A is.

Wow, I didn't consider moat trick before because I thought the lack of static field use would take too long to kill him, but i was wrong. This works great, thanks a lot :smiley:

You can always tele in, static, then tele back across the moat to kill him.

Can't you check the breakpoint tables in the stickies, so you wouldn't have to be pretty sure, but instead you could be sure? :smiley:

About gear choices, what's your merc wearing? I've had very good experiences giving him the ... damn what's the name.. the unique fuscina with loads of slow target? Works well, IMO.
