Hello,!

Last friday the 27th (no it was not the 13th) we were playing like we allways do with a bunch of friends diablo II LOD on battle.net europe. (think we were playing with 5 of us) We are familliar with battle.net restrictions.. we get restricted quite much playing with 5 people over the same ip joining and exitting games.

Last friday at around 14:20 we got restricted from the realm.(unable to connect blablabla) Normally this takes up to 5 min and we can login again... We try'd and try'd... and try'd... no luck at all Still restricted.

That evening about 20:00 i try'd again.. still restricted.. DEMN this is annoying.. just started 4 new characters! I never got restricted for such a long period, so i started contacting blizzard. I've send a email to it with the entire story. It is now monday and i hope to get a reply soon. (24 - 72) hours response time.

Though, im still able to make connection and login with the other realms. So im not banned.

You guys ever contacted blizzard on the phone or email? and how did this go? Do they have a COuntry based servicedesk or?

I would like to hear !

greetings peter (Netherlands)

the only thing you can do is wait, contacting blizzard about a temp ban seems quite useless if you ask me. Just wait and don't try playing to often. Each time you login and it fails, the periode will become longer. So stop for a small time, char stay active 10 days anyway.

On the other hand, you can always try to get a new ip. Unplugging your modem might work if you are ip banned. It worked for me once.

allready try'd getting a new ip. And i just mailed blizzard because i want to know what is going on for sure.

I cant get a new ip.. try'd 3 times at my internet provider but they cant release and renew my ip.. 15min power off modem doesnt work either...

im getting really annoyed now..

I usually have to un-plug my modem for several hours to renew my IP. Just... chill

When you get temp'd... always wait 15 mins before reconnect. Note I'm not talking about realm down or cd-key is in use timeout..

Hello Peter,

Thank you for contacting Technical Support. I have run a check on the IP Address and it does appear that there is a temporary restriction in place.

This will have happened as a result of one or more of the following:
- Rapidly connecting and disconnecting to Battle.net
- Creating or joining numerous games within a short time period- By the use of "add-on programs"
- Chat channel abuse
- Connecting with an Invalid Cd key
- Failed login attempts

This is a temporary restriction and it should automatically release itself after a predetermined amount of time. Each restriction is different and lengths are dependant upon the severity of the violation. If you find that your play style includes creating multiple games in a short period of time, please try reducing the number of games you create. This is also a realm specific error so you may find yourself being able to connect to the other realms as well as Open Battle.net and Single Player.

Temporary restrictions can be anywhere from a few minutes, to many days long, in some cases even a couple of weeks long for the severe restrictions.
Please note that technical support cannot view the length of the restriction, the reason why the restriction was put into place, nor remove any restrictions. In the case of all temporary restrictions the only thing that can be done is to wait until they remove themselves.

Some additional information on Temporary Restrictions can be found at ("http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0689p").

If you have any Technical Issues, feel free to give me an e-mail.

Best Regards,
Kenneth

Okay... i still think this is a standard email except for the IP check.
Well one thing good though, im sure im not banned... so i'l just wait for a few days.

Before i got this e-mail, i've called "Europe Blizzard Technical support" and got on the phone with a tech-guy from blizzard, he told me they did not have any control about account information etc. He told me i could try calling the American Support and maybe they had more control over it. (he was not sure about it) Me neither:shocked:. I also asked him why these restrictions appear and how long they can last: They could last from 5 min to many days maybe 2 weeks, the best thing to do when restricted is wait 15 min, Try again.. if not.. wait an hour.. if still not wait 3 days. The restriction will last longer if you keep trying. Thats what he said to me...

1 last thing, i asked about changing my Ip-address and get around the restrictions. He was not quite sure but he thought it was possible..

I still want to call the US support line, im curious if i can reach something or get more information about these restrictions. Not just for myself also for other people who get restricted for long periods. :sad2:

Thats it.. i think i just start waiting:thumbsdown:

If you call the US support line (and I have once before) you`re gonna be in for a little waiting time.they had me on hold for nearly an HOUR.(had problems loggin in to my acct.) so,if you do call the US support number,i hope you have a really good LD plan becuase it could be very costly.

The Real Down system is aggravating... I don't mind the fact that it tempbans for too quick of character switching etc.

But.What.The.Hell.

I got a Real Down for no reason at all, while simply staying in a trading game waiting for someone to join. Second game of the night... WTF?

Hmm, and those costs for waiting an hour can be getting verry expensive indeed... i will be calling from the netherlands.. I dont know the excact costs but it won't be pretty.

Well im still trying to get a new IP at my provider. But they won't give me.. They say my ip changes every week but that is bull**** either.
I have called them over 3 times now, 2 of the technicans( ) told me to unplug my modem power for 15 min , and plug in again.. i would have a new IP because they work with Dynamic Ip addressing. But this wont work... i allready tried to work with another computer (other hardware could get a other IP) but this either wont work.

-Also unplug the modem for several hours also didn't work

So il just going to sit it out.:hanky:

Maybe i call US support today..

we get restricted quite much playing with 5 people over the same ip joining and exitting games.

Aye, there's not much you can do about that. The amount of games you quit/join in a certain timeframe is linked to your IP Address. If all of you guys are playing on the same network and you're all jumping in and out of games on a regular basis then it's virtually the same as a single guy making games in rapid succession, and thus you're more likely to get a realm down.

If you still used the same Internet connection for both computers then it wouldn't have worked, no. The IP Address assigned to you via your ISP is not dependent on your hardware. If turning off the modem on one computer isn't sufficient to issue you with a new IP address then you're best bet is to wait it out.

thanks orphan, but i also gained al this information in the mean time.. i've try'd all sort of things to get a different ip.. they just won't give me it at the 1st-line servicedesk. (Psst I think they dont have the rights to do it) So, after calling about 10 times to different people. It seems like there are people at that servicedesk willing to help me:smiley: , and others not!

got one guy who said to understand my problem, he was a bit smarter then the others. He would give me a Modem Release-update (if im right) and i had a good chance it would change my IP-address. Had to unplug my modem for 2 hours and try again... Demn still no different ip. I asked him if there was a other way to get a new ip. He told me to send a email to the second-line servicedesk and with a bit of luck they would help me:grin:

Well, one good thing. Im able to get online with the wireless-router of my neighbors. I've installed it myself (half year ago) because they had not sufficient knowledge for it to install. So it was quite easy for me to use their router (Linksys wrt54-g) great range!!!

We just wait it out, i can play now

it was 1 week ago..
