View Full Version : Problem With lightning sorc
I have made a lightning sorc, after looking up much of the information from here. I am using:
Helm- Tarn
Ammy- 2 light, 10fcr 10 resi
Armor- Vmagi 23%
Weapon- Spirt Long Sword
Shield- Spirt Monarch
Gloves- Either Chancies or Trangs
Belt- Nightsmoke (soon to be arachs)
Boots- Natalyas
Rings- Random rare fcr rings
My problem comes from the fact that she isn't quite able to do hell andy/Meph. Andy is a struggle of going back to town and re-healing while meph is nearly impossible. The moat trick does not seem to work at all with lightning and my damage seems to be okay though. I have 8.7k light and 4.9k chain.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated. I am trying to be versitle with this char and get keys and mf.
Would a merc greatly help my sorc much? I am in the process of leveling a 40 nm merc up to 70's (I like the uped stats of self-leveled mercs) What equipment should I be looking for my merc to help with meph and andy runs? Infinity is out of my budget for now. Any help would be great
Thanks,

your gear seems fine. andy might be a problem because you have low resists, but honestly meph should be easy if you are doing the moat trick correctly. i'd goto youtube and search for meph moat trick videos and make sure you are doing it right. also, you might try to boost your resists as much as you can. some resist boots might help alot.
Those two bosses are a pain for a light sorc w/o a good merc. Do you have a merc able to tank them?

Your resists are probably lacking? Otherwise you could simply tank him, and Static + Lightning (or use Charged Bolt, if you already maxed that)
Thanks for the advice guys. Right now I am leveling up my merc. He is 65 and is using tals helm, a war scythe insight and a boneflesh armor. He dies really quickly against mephisto and andarial. Any suggestions as to what would make him to be able to tank them?
Also I am kind of irritated by my damage output. My normal lightning does 10k, but it seems that he dies a lot slower due to his high resistance. It's obvious that a blizz sorc does better meph and andy runs. Is there any other places that a lightning sorc can earn a living at? I have done eldritch, mephisto, andy, summoner and countess.

Merc's aren't supposed to tank Andy or Meph anyways. Use teleport to dance around them.

i never really lvled up my merc at lvls 60-ish. i usually lvled my character up to around 80 and bought a merc, which is usually around lvl 78. a lot faster than leveling him up from 65.

Static + Charged Bolt is much more efficient for killing bosses. Don't be fooled by the ~300 damage you see on screen, most bosses are huge and take most if not all of the 24 bolts, time 3 casts per second. 300x 24x 3 = 21600 damage per second.

agreed, lit and CL only really work with monsters in a line or spread out, CB is a much better boss slayer. lit and CL also have quite long base casting times and are very cumbersome to use against bosses, especially when trying to dodge mephisto cold orb (or "skull" according to Arreat Summit :P). if you dont have 75+ resists (and preferably 65+ block) i wouldn't suggest trying to tank. CB does work with the moat trick, but just takes longer. the general idea is to just spam wave upon wave of CB.
Thanks guys I am going to try that out as soon as I get on. I thought about changing my equipment a bit and use tals weapon, helm and belt to obtain the mf bonus. Would this be wise?

Frankly, I wouldn't give up the FHR on the Spirit, nor the 2 to all skills and FCR. Slap on the belt for the MF and the DTM in my opinion, but don't lose the Spirit just yet.
