View Full Version : new WW druid character
i created a new druid character a few days ago. I have played it so much that i am a level 18 or 19 or 20 already. the druid is by far my favorite of all the characters so far. i previously used a necromancer a lot and really liked him, but i think my druid is so much better.
my druid character i always use it as a werewolf. so far i have that part up to level 7 or 8 and lyncothropy up to the same thing. i use the dire wolves at level 3 so there are 3 of them at one time, and i have a cool helm which adds a +1 to the WW and +3 to the oak sage.
i am now beating enemies faster and easier then i ever did with the necromancer, and i beat the final guy in act 1 without any trouble at all...with the necro, i would die so many times and have to portal back.
since this is the first time i have ever really tried to use the druid, i dont know too much, are there weapons or armor specific to the druid, or is it just the wolf/bird helmets. i know with the necro, there was wands and helmets and stuff that gave + items to the skills tree.
i am going to try to keep playing with him until i get lvl 20 in all of the important WW items, then i am going to work on the elemental stuff.
i tried the bear, and even though he hits for a ton, he was a little to slow for my liking, which was why i like the WW better, his speed in attacks was awesome.
anyway i thought i would share, and if anyone knows the answer to the druid specific weapons/armor, i would appreciate it

With a druid your gonna have to choose either usin Shape shifting skills & summons or Elemental Skills & summons.

If you try to build around all three your damage will be lacking since you wont have enough skills to max out your main skills for a werewolf Like Fury & lycanthropy.
The only item class for druids is the wolf , antler & bird shaped helms *aka= Pelts.
right now i am working on specifically the WW skills. Lycanthropy and Werewolf form.
i havent gotten to lvl 30 yet for fury, but i will definitely be putting it into that.
i looked on this site for reference of what is good, and this is the list of skills i am going to put in
Werewolf - Max
Lycanthropy - Max
Feral Rage - 1 PT
Rabies - 1 PT
Fury - Max
once i get to those, i am planning on starting to put into these
Oak Sage - Max
Dire Wolf - Max
currently i have 1 in oak sage, with a helmet of +2 oak sage, and 2 in Dire Wolf. I will put in 1 more into dire wolf on my next lvl up so i can have the 3 wolves, but everything else will go directly into the WW and lycanthropy. i have lvl 8 or 9 in WW and 6 in lycanthropy. i am going to only be putting into WW until i get that up to max, then work on fury and lycanthropy
I think its wise to pick a sage that you like most and stick to it , almost every wolf ive made in the past where i maxed both sages i always ended up just using one. Most of the time Oak sage.
I always liked putting the extra points in Dire woves and then if any skills left in summon grizzly.
right now i have a point or 2 in the oak sage, just so i can have it with me. most of my points right now are going into the WW skill
the special items only a druid can use are called "pelts" they are like the barbarian helms but for the druid (like wolfhelms or antlers, etc,..)
A druid (shapeshifter) is also profitient in using mauls, the big two handed hammers
The necro has two special items, the wands (other characters can use the wands) and the special shields like shrunken heads (those are only usable by the necro)

Is it necessary to max both werewolf and lycanthropy? I was told that a few points in to werewolf was all that was necessary, kind of like whirlwind for barb...just curious. Don't mean to barge in on someone elses thread.
i hope it is, i am almost maxed on it now. i have 4 pts in dire wolf, and 9 in lycanthropy. i think i am up to 18 or 19 in WW.
i am up to lvl 28 now, i kicked mephisto first try without getting killed. that never happened for me before. i always got killed 3 or 4 or even 5 times when using my necromancer.
i love having an attack rating of over 1700, it rules
also for necro, i had an awesome helm, which was +1 to all necro skills, so that is 3 types of items for a necro, (wand, helm, shield)
seems odd the druid only has a helm specific for him
(i also picked up a nice paladin amulet, +1 to all offensive things, and i had one for an assasin, but i have yet to see one for a druid)
With my Werewolf, I maxed both of them (Werewolf and Lycantrophy), as well as Fury and Oak Sage. The rest of the points I spent in either Dire Wolves or Grizzly (according to your preference).
Maxing Werewolf gives you additional AR and Attack Speed, wereas maxing Lycan gives you more life and duration (it's really bad when you come back to normal shape during a harder fight, and also I am lazy and I don't like converting in and out all the time:wink3: ). Oak Sage gives you and the party life and needs quite some points to hold his own. Fury is your bread and butter killing skill, so max it all the way.
Call me crasy, but I also like 1 point in Carrion Vine, to eat corpses and recover life for me. Dies a lot but I like it!
The only weak spot of this build is dealing with PI's at Hell difficulty. I think there are 2 ways to go: use Rabies (perhaps wwith some points in Poison Creeper, for the synergies) or get a switch weapon and shield with good elemental damage (an example would be Baranars and Tiamats). I usually go with this last choice, focusing my points in my main build. Also, perhaps merc gear can provide auras/curses that can help with PI's.
Hope it helps. Cheers...

WW is a one point wonder for a druid , with +skills you get all you need from it
spend your points on other skills where you get something you can have use of

Werewolves are able to be done differently. But a few of the werewolves builds are known for being dueling capable.
Skill wise as long as you max out fury or know what your doing you can make a half way good werewolf.
Youpey,
I belive your not really shure on whats great for a wolf. And I hope you keep exporling this build. I also want to give you a few pointers on werewolves so you dont mess up too much.
Stats wise you want to dump as much points into vit as you can. And item wise you want the mods of +number value to life, faster hit recovery % amounts of 42 or 86, duel leech, and a large amount of resist all. And you do not want to use + number value to life by level, or + number value to vit in any amount.
Weapon wise you should all ways pick a weapon that has a large amount of increased attack speed on it. For your lvl right now you would be wise to keep a weapon like for say, steel runeworded scimatar/greataxe/large axe, coldsteel eye, The General's Tan Do Li Ga shealed, and Blood Crescent. For normal items.
Cold kill shealed, Boneslayer Blade shealed, Spineripper shealed, Blackbog's Sharp shealed, Baezil's Vortex shealed, Zakarum's Hand shealed, bad @$$---> Ribcracker <--- bad @$$, Ginther's Rift shealed, Aldur's Rhythm 3xshealed <--- real crap, and Hwanin's Justice shealed cool weapon.
Elites
Windhammer shealed second best pvm weapon, Ik mual 2x shealed, lightsaber shealed, Razor's Edge shealed, Cranebeak shealed, Nord's Tenderizer shealed, Baranar's Star shealed, Horizon's Tornado, Stormlash shealed, Bonehew 2xshealed, Viperfork shealed, and Sazabi's Cobalt Redeemer.
Top end GODLY
Griswold's Redemption- 4 shealed is commonly used not all that, best bet is to 3x 40%ed/15% ias + Lo rune.
Runeworded Eth Oath- simi godly weapon crytic sword, scrouge, warspike, champoin axe, and feral axe.
Best player vs monster weapon out there right now is Ribcracker upped and shealed.
Eth runemaster- You soct it with 1 zod and the rest 40%ed/15% ias jewels. It must have 5 socts in it.
Eth horizons tornado- zod it and its great for a few builds out there. I have been able to beat down wirlwindbarbs wile using this. But other then that its not too well known.
Ebotd - This weapon used to be one of the most popler weapons out there to date. Right now its second best to a greif phase blade one handed, and equels out to a eth tombreaver on the 2 handed. Eth zerker axe, eth dim blade, Basicly it goes like this for what weapons to put it in. Any thing thats 6 socted elite, and not a thunder mual.
Greif phase blade- Its a runeword ya but the only weapon worth it is a phase blade. This is the best 1 handed weapon out there. The only thing it is missing is a range of 3. Where ebotd is still sometimes wiser to use.
Eth 3 socted tomb reaver- put 2x40%ed/15% ias and a zod rune in it. Everything else is sub par and a total mistake.
It basicly goes like this. If your 1-30 your best bet is a weapon with a high base speed with as much inceased attack speed on that weapon. If your around 30-60somthing sheal the crap out of a weapon to have a high amount of speed on it. The weapon its self needs to have a base speed of very fast number value of -10 or faster. When you get to use higher lvl items its wiser to use if your poor, 2 handed weapons for the damage. If your rich skip to the godly weapons and pick one then go with it. The topic of whats the best weapon out there for anything is totaly up for grabs but the best 2 handed weapon OR I should say best weapon hands down, for player vs monster and that is ribcracker upped and shealed. Its because in player vs monster. Crushing blow is your best friend for damage.
Basicly I would take a cruel phase blade of quickness over a cruel lendary mallet of quickness any day of the week.
Phase Blade
31 to 35 (33 Avg) damage
54 lvl req
25 str req
136 dex req
2 range
Indestructible no need to repair and cant be eth
6 socts amount
[-30] base speed - fastest 1 handed weapon out there
Legendary Mallet
50 to 61 (55.5 Avg) damage
61 lvl req
189 str req
- dex req
1 range
65 needs to be repaired and can be eth
4 socts amount
[20] base speed
Cruel +201-300% Damage
Quickness 40% Attack Speed Increase
Speed mods just suptract the % amount from the base speed of the weapon. Theres more too it then that but its the basics of understanding a weapons attack speed.
I know this isnt 100% on top of everything but I covered alot. Read thro it plz and try to get a basic understanding of whats going on.
i finally got the ribcracker. my guy is insane now. the only thing i dont have is the boots. my boots are junk
