First question obviously is, is ES required for a melee sorceress?
Second question is, max block is important, but is dual dream more important?
Third question! I'm going to swap off for a ranged weapon on my secondary for those monsters which will kick my *** if they get close (FE comes to mind), which weapon does the best? I want to say widowmaker for the guided arrow, but does the exploding arrow bow distribute the damage among those who are affected by the explosion arrow? I know you get the bonus from Fire Mastery, but what about enchant and such?

ES is not needed, but with very good items that helps. If you can kill already all immunities then go ahead and add ES.
I have tried that ES with 3 melee sorcs, but now I always skip that.
Reason I dont use it anymore:
1. I can get max resist easily, so energyshield protection against elemental damage is not needed.
2. And against psysical, 10-50% psysical reduction when needed and max or high block.
3. I prefer maxing lightning mastery, so it gives 1-4K lightining melee damage depends what weapon/charms I use. So there not enough points to make ES good enough. I like to kill all monster, nastier the better, so good offense is needed. Full game double immune sparky near meph with conviction aura is always nice challenge.
Mana burners are everywhere, and I like to kill those too.
4. I can tele all my mana away, no need to safe as buffer.
5. I dont like to prebuff in town, so much easier to just go and fight
6. Most important, I like to have that 1% change to get killed, so I need to
play good, tele away, use lots of bottles etc.. to survive.
Max or near max block is important, about 1000-1200 life with max block is enough.
Never tried dual dream, current melee sorc can do just fine full game travincal , travi temples (these are very hard sometimes) and clearing whole meph level in full games. Full game maggot lvls are nice place to lvl melee sorc.
Guided arrow is good, and those exploding with kuko etc.. are good, BUT those nasty FE are fire immunes and usually PI too, so you need a way to kill
those in full games. I like to mix all kind of damages, so I can kill all immunites, like 4-6K fire, 1-4K lightining,500-2K psysical,100-500 cold,500 poison, some magical damage, crushing blow, monster cant heal, open wounds etc...
So there are plenty of weapons that work, putting all pieces together is what counts.

The explosion arrow doesn't distribute your damage, it gives your full damage to all the monsters in the explosion radius, except for the physical damage that will only hit the monster the arrow hits. So you should take a demon machine or kuko for pvm, while widowmaker is a more preferred option in pvp.
As far as to go dual dream or max block. A second dream will give you around 20k more lightdamage while maxblock will give you a lot more safety. There is always the option to use Guardian angel armor and a lot of resistance charms to go max block with 2x dream and reach 90 all res.
The first sentence of DH Amazon's post says all about es. Although if you can get your manapool above 1k and you can spare 20 points in tk es is a freebee. The max warmth will regen mana very fast.
