View Full Version : How can I improve my summoner necro with only pgems to spend?

My summoner necro is lvl 76 and just started hell, it has 1 point in every curse (i wanted to see what they all did and pick my favourites) maxed RS, SM and CE and a few points in mages (as well as 1 in all golems, summon resist etc).
The gear it has is poor. It has a stealth body armour, lore helmet, sigons shield and belt, some unique sword with +1 to skills, a manald heal ring, and random found/gambled boots, amulet other ring etc.
The problem is i'm having a hard time getting through hell with it. I tried to do the pit as i've heard that summoners work well there and wanted to see what it was like but my army got ripped apart by something (i think it was a dark archer boss spawn).
What equipment could I get to improve this character when I only have 12pgems to trade with?
I know in the long run I would at least like arm of king leoric and a homunculus but I doubt I can afford either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm assuming this is ladder? Since the economy for L/NL are vastly different.

pm me at *tehj. I can spare you some equipment
Look for some Trang's, you can probably afford one or two pieces. The chest piece would be excellent for your build. +2 summoning GG.

At 76, I believe you are rather under-levelled for The Pit and will struggle. The Pit is a Level 85 area in Hell!

Use your curses better. You should have at least 3 or 4 curses hotkeyed. Other than that, get a better merc weapon so you can drop the first body and CE faster. If all else fails, insight does it in a pinch.
Shop for a +3 summon wand from akara. That should only cost 10~100k gold.
I don't know the current Hellfire Torch prices, but low Necromancer ones will eventually be pgem stuff and they come with +3 to your skills and stats and resists as well .
Getting a +3 to RS is probably better than +1 to all your skills. Even better if it has SM as well.
Lastly, a +3 to summoning skills amulet will help big time as well. But don't confuse Necromancer and Druid summoning skills! :wink3:

I started doing pit runs at level 65 with self-found items.
Do hell countess runs, get runes and make a "rhyme" shield and a "spirit" longsword.
Shop for +3 summon wand or at least a +2 necro with some other mods to get you by.
Shop for/look for 4-socket armor and 3 socket helm, fill with topazes.
Make an "insight" pole-arm for your merc. (great for spamming corpse explosion).
Make sure you always have a few revives out. They are fantastic meat shields. I prefer archer revives.
Spam amp damage, then hit one sucker with attract, and as soon as you get a corpse, corpse explode like mad. Stay back from the conflict, fire enchanted or cold enchant will kill you quick.
I assume you have a might merc.

I suggest going with either the PTopaz armor or helm, but not both. Either place can give good resists, and you'll need it in Hell!
Your other suggestions rock!

Thanx for all the advice, Tehj very generously gave me some items, unique wand with RS and SM skills, +3 summoning amulet, Marrowalks, rare trophy with +2 to necro skills and a weapon for my merc. Will definately keep my eye out for other things mentioned.
Thanx again everyone.
How high a level do you have to be to gamble a +3 summoning amulet?
The prefix "Golemlord's" has a level of 60 and gambling gets you levels of your character level of -3 to +4 (confirmation needed), so you'd need to be at least level 56 (again, confirmation needed).
PS. I think you're better off asking these kind of questions in the Statistics forum. :wink3:

I'll be having the same problem as the original poster soon, in the exact same gear/pgem dilemma. If anyone is on US East Ladder Softcore and could help me out with any spare equipment, I would much appreciate it as well. /w me at *spine002
The trading forums here can be pretty cool. Definitely check that out.

Do your NM forge and hope for a pul or um. Trade for either one nice item or for a few trang parts. Try to make it to hell forge and hope for the best. Depending on what you get, you can get some nice items.
You should be able to buy a number of items for pgems: Arm of King Leoric, trang gloves & body, homonuculus. I've bought Marrowwalks for pgems as well (45, but hey - still pgems).

Heya,
12 pgems can get you very far in the game.
Suggestion:
Make a spirit weapon (broadswords in NM/Hell get 4 sockets max, perfect).
Use some Pgems to get the runes.
Vipermagi armor is awesome and cheap. 6~7 Pgems will get you one.
Kill stuff and gamble the rest of your gear easily. A blue circlet with +skills to whatever you want. May take time, but costs you nothing but gold. Socket with topaz. Example would be a blue circlet with +2 all or +3 branch skills with a 2nd mod that you like, with 2 topaz inserted after socketing it. Rings will come and go, don't stress them. Gamble a +2 all or +3 branch ammy. Gamble boots and gloves.
If you get your skellies higher level through +skills, they will easily walk through the pits. Your merc and your curses support them. Corpse Explosion destroys everything on the screen once a single body falls. That's how you easily stomp through the pits. I use Dim Vision a lot down there to helm the skellies out against those ranged archer folk. You can easily Pit in the 70's. Just use your curses wisely. Range? Dim Vision. Close melee and fast and really mean? Decrepify. Normal? Amp. Massive screen of retarded conviction fant extra fast flesh women? Confuse. Pits are very easy. Just use what you want and you'll see that a single curse makes all the difference in these fights and you suddenly think it's too easy down there.
You don't need resists, just play smart and hang back.
You don't need good gear. Just MF and +skills.
Gamble what you need.
12 Pgems can get you the rest.
And lovely folk on this forum will help you out regardless if you need stuff.

Hey I seem to be having similar issues, so I have taken the advice of the previous posts and attempted tp trade for some basic items. Sadly though I'm having trouble trading for anything of use. Novody seems to want to trade things like parts of the trang set for pgems/whatever I have to offer.
What I have:
Rare death mask /w a bit of resists
+2 Necro skills wand
Sigons Guard (going for max block)
Haemondus adamant
Sigons wrap (for the res + set bonus)
Sigons Sabot (for the MF bonus)
23% mf ammy
naggle
Mandrid heal
What I have to trade:
Kuku Shak
Pus Spitter
Spineripper
Bloodmoon
Djinn Slayer
Amn
Dol
Assorted lower runes
13 pgems

If you do a bunch of lower kurast runs, you will get a ton of pgems. Just clear the area so you can look in every chest/hollow log/corpse etc. Play it at a high /players# setting, and you will get much more out of the chests. Pgems are tradeable for most people, but specific items you have will go to a much narrower audience.
You'll also see lots of charms, and eventually will probably get some you like. Plus you'll see so many rares that might be helpful for you or your merc. Keep your inventory kinda clear and teleport back a ton, and you will get a whole lot of money for gambling, too. Even unassuming looking stuff there can go for quite a bit at a vendor, so don't turn your nose up at anything if you want to go gamble-crazy. Gambling can be a bit tedious, but if you're getting money and experience and charms and gems, lower kurast can be a good place to spend some time. Summoners especially are very well suited for area clears there.
one side to summon and the other to fight with as this lets you use cheaper/specialized gear.
On the summoning side boost up ur RS and SM with your wand and shield.
On the fighting side a wand and shield with resists, +curses or +bone spirit/spear is good.
Careful not to switch to summon side when fighting - just use fighting side to raise minions.
