View Full Version : godly spirit or hoz? (hammerdin)

i recently was able to roll a 35% FCR spirit in a sacred targe that had 44 innate res all and 11% ED, as well as the highest possible defense roll on a targe. (it took about 8 spirit rolls to get 35 :P)

then recently i acquired a hoz, and now i am torn as to what to use. i am sure the hoz will give me a much higher overall damage; the resists are comparable of course, but the spirit wins by a margin unless i um the hoz.

also, without the hoz i lose a ton of FCR and it will be rough hitting the next breakpoint (probably going to need a 20 FCR ammy and 10 FCR rings)

what is dii.net's opinion on this situation?

It should be easy to hit the 63% fcr breakpoint without spirit? but with the 105% fcr i think you need to have spirit?

this i get from perusing the fourms.

the 105% bp isn't that necessary. I use hoz for the damage and use spirit to help raise my bo level on my cta.

If you have that high def, 35 FCR, 44 Res Spirit, use it.

HoZ does have more damage and better block, but once you play at 125 FCR, you tend to not want to go back. Besides, Spirit has all the other nice bonuses to it that free up gear and charm slots. Even if you have to pump Dex a bit more, Spirits 22 Vita helps to make up for it.

I recently got a 44 res Sacred Rondanche, and will be rolling it till 35. Although, I would have preferred a Targe.

It's a bit ironic that the most played Paladin build, can actually benefit more by not using HoZ.

In the end, its all about preference, and nothing more.

63? 105? This is not the sorc or barb forum you know. The breakpoints are 75/125 IIRC.

actually, isn't it 95/125?
anyway, i traded the hoz away (with a million other things) to finish an enigma. i don't really mind since hammerdins deal absurd amounts of damage anyway :)

My 2cp here
first of all break points for pala FCR are 75/125 and it's notable difference in hammer trowing speed.
Bigest advantage of hoz is fact that you will operate at maximum block rate 75%, +2 to combat isn't that much bonus to hammer damage really, Bigest disadvantage is losing valueble things like a) FHR (and spirit have 55FHR) b) FCR (you loosing up to 35%)
But let look closer on different gear set up
With HoZ to break 125 FCR you can achive from wizardspike (50), arachnids (20), viper (30), tranq gloves (20) and you still have freedom to use either 1 ring (10fcr) or circlet (20fcr) or ammi (15fcr)
With spirit in shield its much more easier and leave you more space to play with other gear

my spirit gives me 75% block with holy shield and not much dex, so i'm not worried about the block (that's why i put it into an elite sacred rondache - best possible block at 60%)

i think with hoto + spirit your damage is actually higher than hoz + wizspike... resists and FCR are probably comparably equal for our sakes. also, enigma > viper :)

The best shield for block is sacred targe not sacred rondache. If you can manage to get a 40+ base sacred targe spirit with 35% fcr, then use it by far. The fhr and fcr are a big help and it leaves other gears open for customization. With maxed holy shield, you wont even need that much dex to block. HoZ is for when you have fcr circlets/amulets/rings. 125% fcr should be maintained at all times.

oops ; ya it's made out of a rondache not a targe, mixed up the names but got the right shield. and yea i put too much dex (about 20 extra i'd guess) so i'm waaaay above max block (kinda sad but don't feel like remaking it)

yuqing, thanks for the insight about when to use hoz - i'm not experienced with hammerdins

yes you lose a lil damage, and you lose a lil block % but spirit has some nice mods, the 35fcr and 55 fhr make a big difference, my logic is that due to your insane fcr/fhr youll have a significant increase in successful attacks per minute due to the fact that with low fcr and low fhr you get fhr locked relatively easy when trying to tele out of mobs so it makes up for the damage, also you can get to bosses faster, and then theres the mana and the nice light/cold/psn res and the +2 vita ;)
