is this guide still valid? http://www.diabloii.net/strategy/x-articles/taopoison.shtml

because based on that, poison bowazons would be extremeley powerful, yet i dont see many of them

Things have changed since 1.09. Poison sources are now averaged for ranged attacks.

i think the largest reason is because patch 1.10 brought along teleport. pd is considered bm by most pvp convention, so the only place you can use pd zons is in pubbies, and ever since teleport was implemented, zons stopped doing well in pubs. as a result, you never see anyone build a zon just for pubby pk anymore, so no more poison bowzons.

i'm sure the change in damage calculation has a little to do with it too.

bowzons suck ? lolol a decent bowzon can hold their own against basically any enemy but they kind of need frw+max dmg charms not poison.

Poison still hurts in pvp though as my poison nec proves every time I play :)

(dunno how well a poison ama would work now)

poison from poison nova is very different from the poison on ama charms. the poison lengths make them two very different beasts.

as for decent bowzons holding their own agaisnt any enemy, i'm going to have to disagree with you. i play zon for tpk and for gm 1v1's, but i definitely feel underpowered most of the time. being landlocked in 1.11 pvp environment definitely leaves you as the prey, especially vs necros, druids, barbs, charging paladins, actually almost any character. bowzons can definitely win these duels, but theres no doubt for me that they are the underdog in these duels.

but leaving the realm of generalities, if you use a poison charm setup, and go to duel in pub games in hell, your zon will have very little res. almost every elemental character will have their way with you.

Yes, 90% of that article is still valid- save for the fact that the ranged attack poison damage is calculated the same as Melee now.

still, theoretically, you could prebuff with venom, and have a low psn source over a long period of time, say a charm with 1 dmg over 30 seconds, and it would do that venom dmg +1 over 15.2 seconds?

or would it be the venom dmg per second + 1/30 psn dmg per second for 15.2 seconds?

the latter would be largely superior

whenever you add venom, it just cuts the rest of the poison sources short, to the same length as the venom (usually only .4 seconds). so if you have a 100 pd over 12 seconds sc, if you add venom, the pd from the sc will be cut to just 3.3 pd over .4 seconds.

venom usually kills any other poison sources :undecided:
