I'm finally looking into my very first utility build for ubers (dclone and tristram), after going through the build guides and suggestions from other people, I have roughly 3 options for skills to max:
1. zeal/sacrifice/fanaticism/holyshield (1 pt smiter)
2. zeal/smite/fanaticism/holyshield (Pougee's original)
3. fanaticism/smite/holyshield/conviction (counter Meph's conviction)
All three seem viable to me, so I'm still undecided and would like to gather some feedback about the pros and cons for these options.

This is what I'm doing, 83 as of yestery, Very easy to lvl, you will enjoy the zeal dmg with sacrifice. Also, I run Destruction Keys very easily, life tap + zeal Ftw... when I find naht I just throw up a life tap from wand(and I have Dracul's) and then leech my way to him taking dmg from CE which does hurt but with tap up it's full in half a zeal and I only have 1200 hp. Kill any boss taking zero dmg.
I would go with 1 or 2, personally I like to max smite, hs, fanta, sac, and the rest into zeal, since sac gives more %ed than 1 pt into zeal. Eventually this ladder I will replace my heavens light with a greif and since that has ignore targets defense I don't really care about the ar bonus from putting points into zeal. I don't see any reason to put a bunch of points into conviction just to override meph's conv since you can easily stack on enough res and put 1 pt into salvation to have max res even with his conviction on you.

1 pt smiter is the way to go. I highly recommend it and you can even use zeal instead of smite on ubers since you will have very high life leech.

1 or 2... I have both, and both of them rock really hard... I can't really say that one is better than the other... Both are quite versatile, but having max smite will help you stand alone a little better in PvP... As for what they are built for, both kill really fast... I see no reason to have a maxed conviction aura with all the avalible ways to over max your resists, thus completely nerfing Meph's conviction...
Edit: You can't leech off of bosses... Life tap is what keeps you alive in this case...

I recently successfully did the Ubers with a level 82 Paladin using crappy gear and a Life Tap wand... 1pt Smiter for the win!
No need to have more than one point in Smite unless it's ONLY going to PvP or fight Ubers.
