Unique upgrade question

I am considering upgrading a 198% Guardian Angel I just found on ladder. I know that some of the stats are re-rolled when this is done. Which ones? ED? or just base defense- since it would then be hellforge plate and not templar? I've read about vampgazes being notorious for not going up in def when up'd, looked in the stickies, but couldn't find a clear statement about how this is handled. Thanks.

Base defense gets re-rolled, jewels, sockets, and everything else remain.

The defense would definitely go up. While I cannot tell you what the defense will be, I can tell you that the base defense of hellforge plate is higher than a templar coat. Even if you got the lowest possible number for the hellforge plate, and had the highest possible number for guardian angel, you will retain the +198% defense on the upped armor, meaning no matter what the result, it will be better than what you had to begin with. Just make sure you have the strength requirements met - hellforge is quite a bit more than templar coat!

Your Guardian Angel currently has 274 + 1 = 275 base defence, because all armours with +%ED spawn with their max base defence + 1.

Hellforge plates can have anywhere from 421 - 530 base defence. So after you upgrade it, your Guardian Angel will have anywhere from 1254 - 1579 defence.

To explain the Vampire Gaze predicament, all Vampire Gazes spawm with 125 + 1 = 126 base defence. However, a bone visage can have 100 - 167 base defence. This means that only about 50% of upped Vampire Gazes will have a higher defence.
