I get this error message every time I install Diablo II after a format.. I think I've had it installed and running well 2-3 times but every time the same CD error has haunted me. I've tried some of the fixes on other websites..

-Game Is Up To Date (1.11b)
-Game Is a Legal Copy
-CD Is In CD-ROM Drive
-Problem Can Be Fixed As It Has Been Before

Oh, and I used search and didn't find much useful so if anyone can point me towards another topic on this matter, I am sorry for creating this.

Thanks.

Check if the disc is scratched/damaged. Also, if ou are using Vista you should check the stickied thread.

If it's none of those, I know of nothing that can do this. My best solutions would be to contact Blizzard or buy a new copy.

Ok, thanks. I guess I could borrow my mates disc. We bought it a few years back and used to play online..

EDIT:
Wow! You were right. I can't find any scratches or blemishes but I used another cd and it worked. Thanks! :)

I'm guessing you've tried this already, but I have the same issue - and this 'fix' has always worked for me.

I take the D2 CD out, put something else in and run it for a few seconds, then put the D2 CD back in. Works after that. For some reason, it doesn't work if I just open and close the slide on the D2 CD, I actually need to run something else in that drive for a moment or two. After that, works fine.
