Mfing question

Hey all,

I currently have a lvl 75 skellemancer and have been trying too do some magic finding. My current % is something like 248% chance of finding magic item.

I have been doing "pit" runs in Hell and have come up with complete 0 items more then I am finding anything spectacular...I have found an Alma Negra, Athena's Wrath (decent druid weapon btw +3 all skills).

Is my magic find pitifully low??? should I get more?

Someone told me anything above 100% mf is pointless....:shocked:

I usually don't worry about the MF at all, I don't even think mine goes above 100%. The only thing with MF'ing is you gotta have patience and the good items will drop if you do enough runs and if you have the right amount of luck.
It's all about repetition and sooner or later you'll get something worth keeping.

248% MF is fine for running the pits. The monsters there have the chance to drop anything in the game, just not a great chance. Keep running and eventually things will start to drop.

Actually, 248 is fine. With a General, I would go to the act 5 on the way to anya or even the ancients. Most places in act 5 is where you find the Windforce as it is. That would be my ideal item find for my Necro General. There's too many monsters immune to too many things for a sorc to dilly dally around with. Can't find a hydra bow in act 1, I believe. You have to find those in act 5. Nothing wrong with mf'n to Baal and just decrep baal and clay golem him with bone spirit. He like get's owned pretty quick if you have a good attack.

My sorc's usually end up just below 300% mf so, ya, you're doing good. Just have to increase your chances and keep killing. I usually found more and better stuff if I kept to it and killed as fast as possible. Then again, it's all luck anyways. The faster you kill the more you increase your chances in luck happening.

Chosen, I'm afraid you have many mfing days ahead of you! Try not to get discouraged, though, as it can take a while to build up some wealth. Honestly, though, my suggestion might be to take a break from mfing and hope into public Hell Baal runs until you're level 85 or so. If you find a Baal run where they kill Baal each time, you have a good chance at picking up something by clicking like mad when he dies (DON'T try to wait and see what drops, just press alt and click in the area as fast as possible - everything's gone in less than a second). I've picked up Shakos and great caster weapons on those which would really help you out.

Additionally, the most critical part of mfing is not the mf percentage (yours is more than enough) but killing speed. I'll take killing twice as many bad guys in the same time frame with 200% mf then killing half as many with 400% any day of the week. Leveling up another 10 levels will add significantly to your stats and skills and will really boost your mercs damage and survivability. All that translates in to faster killing overall.

If you get frustrated or bored of your summonancer, you can start work on a more specialized but perhaps even faster killing machine like a hammerdin or a Sorceress (for a second character, I really recommend a pure lightning sorc). You can give them great gear with your finds from the summonancer (or just keep collecting all those gems, junk jewels, and low runes in bulk to sell) and they're a lot of fun. I dig summonancers as first charcters because they're so survivable, but I've grown to prefer the light sorc for her speed. Properly built, light sorcs can make great key runners. Match that with a good zealot/smiter for uber trist runs and you can get rich with one lucky roll of a torch!

i have like 540 mf with my bliiz sorc . i run hell andy and meph. drops have been good so far. 1 hoz/ 1 shako and other stuff. still my mf is far from perfect so still trying to get more 700% + is a must. i m level 82 and my killing speed is relatively fast.
