It is a setting in single player which allows you to simulate having 8 players in the game, which in turn affects experience and drops.

Any number from 1 to 8 will work.

How dya do it?
You type /players 8
*You now get an acknowledgement message, which is "Players set to 8"....or something like that.

@Gorny: It can also be used to go back to 1, after a higher setting. So x=1-8

It's an ingame command that increases the difficulty and drops as if there were a total number of X players, where X = 2 to 8 perople total.

This only works on Single Player, and Open Battle.net, it does not work in Closed Realm play.
