Hi guys,

I played D1 at release and just really got hooked on Titan Quest (aka D3), but never played D2. I had to see if the assertions about TQ being the spiritual successor to D2 were true, and how true they were. Well, indeed, it's like playing the same game with a few new editions. I have to say it is somewhat beyond just mildly entertaining to play the game locked at 640x480 (although I was informed yesterday that the expansion allows for 800x600 which looks significantly better).

With that said, I'm obviously about 5-6 years behind. I'm not trying to be competitive, but I do want to survive and have fun. I started with a Fishymancer (now level 14), then created a Meteorb sorc (at 6 I think), and finally ended the evening with a new Amazon. I am trying to not get hung up on min-maxing by reading the years of build data, but one thing I don't like is if i accidentally click on a skill in the tree I can't figure out how to undo it before closing the window. Oops, second point in cold arrow just makes me want to restart that char.

I guess the main thing that I'm missing is knowing ANYBODY in the game. My online crew is heavily into EVE with a small, small handful of TQ players. As you may know, though, the disadvantage of TQ multiplay i that it is ALL open servers - therefore nothing has any particular value.

So, anybody have patience to have a new player tag along? I'm obviously stuck in Normal now and in no particular hurry to rush. I'm not looking for free gear nor gold, just companions along the way.

I'm not particularly tied to a server yet, though my highest char is on East Coast US. It isn't exactly a long trail to get up to 14.

Cheers.

(admins if you think this is more appropriate in the player matching forum, please feel free to move it - however since it is more of an intro, I thought it would be better here.)

And I was just introduced to the concept of a Tristram run, etc. Very efficient.

Welcome to the forums!! I may have a bit more Diablo II knowledge than you, but you seem way ahead of me in general multiplayer wisdom ^_^. What's TQ? At any rate, there's no way to undo a skill tree selection that I know of - definitely a negative with the whole set-up. But you'll find that you need to really plan out your characters before hand. Hate to make you look at some of the build guides, but Diablo II has been around for so long, and blizzard has ratcheted up the difficulty so high in build 1.10, that you can easily bone yourself and wind up with a character that is nearly unplayable in Hell difficulty. Anyone and just about any build can kill effectively in Normal and Nightmare, but Hell difficulty is a whole nother ball of was. Screw up your build and you'll find yourself dying to Act 1 monsters in no time. Fishymancers are great to start off with as they can really introduce you slowly to the game. I've played a few and they're unbeatable for folks just starting out that want a build that can kill effectively in Hell without any expensive gear to speak of. I'm starting my first character of the season as a pure lighting sorcerer, though, as I find her to be a really fast killer. She's slow to get going, but once she's high level and has just moderate gear, she's a fast killer. And when you get wealthier and can upgrade her - look out!!
Anywho - welcome to the forums!
