View Full Version : What % per stat point?
Based on a new Barbarian, I have been basically going:
+3 Vitality
+1 Strength
+1 Dexterity
0 Energy
I know in the guides it says put most into vitality but it doesn't give a specific proportion into each. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Starting out, I always put a few more in Strength, as that is a Barbarian's power at low levels. However, don't go much past 90-100 pts in Strength and like 40 in Dex, that is, if you have gear that gives + to these. The rest should go in Vit
That's how I normally do it.
My 82 Barbarian
I put 80 pts in Str
21 pts in Dex
The rest in Vit
hope that helps
It really depends on what gear you have and what gear you are planning on having. A barb using mauls is obviously going to need more strength and a lot less dex than a barb using swords. If untwinked add enough points to actually wear your gear, minus any strength bonuses you have already acquired and can maintain. For an end-game build, with gear already lined up, simply subtract out the st/dex on the gear bonuses from the total amount you'll need.
For example, let's say you are a sword barb and need/want to use cbs which requires 189 st and 110 dex and you were going to use the following gear:
Arreats - 20st/20dex
Mid Stat anni -15 st/dex
Mid Stat torch -15 st/dex
Mid Dex Raven - 17 dex
Mid St Dracs - 13st
Total from gear= 63 strength and 67 dex.
This means you will need 126 base strength and 43 base dex. If you have some +st or +dex charms or any other gear with bonuses this will also change the amount of invesment needed. As a result, you can't simply be told to put xxx amount per level. It is really up to your judgement on what you need at the moment, how much you will need for end-game gear, and what can you reasonably expect to attain, in both the short and long-term.

I definitely agree that in the early going you're going to want to dump a whole heck of a lot more into strength to be able to wield the better weapons, and wear better armor. In fact, it's not that unusual to have barbs dump all 5 stat points per level into strength for the first several levels to accomplish just that. Instead of investing a set amount per level, the usual idea is to get up to your strength a dexterity requirements quickly, and then in the later levels to devote most, if not all of your stat points to vitality.
Obviously, that is easier said than done if you're playing untwinked and don't know what your end item gear is going to look like. Without knowing what type of barb you're building, it's also hard to project what are good numbers to shoot for. You'll get more suggestions if you tell us what type of weapon class you think you'll be using, and whether or not you plan on going for a two handed weapon or going with a shield (using a shield will mandate many more points in dexterity than not using one).
