good 1h weapon 4 new sorc

what would be the best way to get a good one handed weapon/orb for a meteorb sorc. With the ladder restart I need something I can buy/make/find easy to use.

Use the Anya quest in act 5, she gives you a class specific item, and orbs are frequently given out to young sorceresses. Otherwise I would recommend a lot of leveling in Foothills, A4 River or other high density enemy populations and hope for the best. If you plan on using a lot of meteor you might want to look into a 2 socket staff and socket Tir Ral in it for +3 fire skills. Normal baal might just drop you something nice ;)

How about "Spirit" runeword in a 4 socket Bastard Sword/Crystal Sword? Finding the sword will not be much of a problem for sure. Think that would be the BEST starting 1h weapon you can get, until Mephisto or Andariel drop something else.

2h weapon "Leaf" runeword is of course nice too.

For lower levels, Death spade is a good choice, with +Mana per Death helping to keep up with mana cost of spells. later, Wall Of The Eyeless(shield) can make the same and have 20 FCR. Wands with FCR + mana can help until you find something better.

I think Melianor ment to say broad sword because bastard sword is two handed and isn't the best choice for a caster..

Also if you find white broad sword, socket quest will allways give it 4 sockets

edit: remember that crystal sword will get more than 4 sockets from the quest and wont be fit to make a spirit runeword

Are you sure about that? I think I read somewhere that depending on the item level it may give only 3 sockets(25 and below I think)

is what I was talking about. A Broad Sword can have a maximum of 3 sockets depending on where it spawned.

I wouldn't recommend using your socket quest on a sword, but rather wait until you find one. Both broad swords and crystal swords can drop with 4 open sockets and I think nm acts 2 and 3 have pretty good chances, as another bonus 4 socket polearms drop in these areas too so you can also be looking for one of those to make insight for your merc. Running nm countess (even if it takes a while to 'run') is still the best way to get the required runes. With both of these items you should be much more powerful.

Since you are playing on ladder, it shouldnt be too difficult to get into nm so long as you have a decent party and do a few baal runs. Its unlikely you will get these items early on, so until then you should try and grab a hellforge hammer (as has already been suggested) or a khalim's will (not just the flail) as these will help you melee. Also the horadric staff has 50% increased attack speed and resists and can be used for the second half of act 2.

Im doing Baal runs right now (lvl 38) so far Im doing fine with the crap items I have but tonight Ill move into NM and start doing countess runs and run through A2 and try to get the stuff I need

Indeed i meant Broad Sword. Thanks for the correction.

What i use my socket quest on? Some uniques like Skin of Vipermagi, to socket it with UM or other useful rune. Or on a white Monarch to make "Spirit" runeword shield.

I'd save socket quest for socketing your unique or set items, or for things that are difficult to find properly socketed (like a white monarch for spirit). Don't be afraid to use your quest though - you can always build new chars and get the quest quite quickly again if you need more.

thanks for the advice I think Im gonna go ahead and use the socket quest so I can make the spirit since Im just starting on the ladder and having problems finding a 4os 1h sword fast enough.

Edit: a normal long sword will work fine if I use the socket quest right?
