I was wondering, which runes can be found in which difficulty?
Can anyone perhaps provide me with a list of runes, and which difficulty they are found on?
Thanks all :)

Always run in the highest possible area because the chance for lower runes will not decrease in areas with high levels. The chance just decreases a tiny bit, by the chance of addiitional, higher runes dropping. Example: Hell cows have nearly the same chance to drop a Ral rune than those from normal mode, but they can drop up to Zod in addition to that.
What matters is the monster type. For example, ghost monsters have a bigger chance for runes and IIRC cows are particularly good at it. Also, bosses have higher chances for high runes, although in most cases it pays off more to kill 20 regular monsters than a single boss.
For further details regarding monster drops, check the drop calculator of ATMA. The link is in my sig.

Nice one, thanks a lot :)
Just one last question - is the countess capable of dropping ALL runes in the game, if on hell difficulty?
I am also wondering which runes can drop in normal difficulty. I understand the rarest runes and the most powerful ones cannot drop in normal. So I was hoping I could get some info on which runes can drop in normal only, excluding nightmare and hell runes, and which drop in nightmare, excluding hell difficulty runes, since I wanna make some nice rune words for sorceress, low level ones of course, to get me started ^^
atma should answer most questions. Or else you can go and find d2data at the webarchive. Anyway, the countess in hell is only a good source for low-mid level runes. She has two drops, a items drop, which I think can get up to Lo but with very little chance. and a rune drop that can't go that high. Ist perhaps more, perhaps less. If you want really high runes, you need to run the countess with as many as possible people in the game, though you don't want to run the countess for those anyway. If you want lower runes, run at /players 1.
P.S. check atma or search here, I'm sure someone has posted the result somewhere.

Here's a guide about everything you could possibly want to know about finding runes.

For countess:
Difficulty-Special Drop-Normal Drop
Normal - up to Nef - up to Ral
NM - up to Ko - up to Io
Hell - up to Ist - up to Lo
Keep in mind that for her to pick from the normal drop category has a lot lower odds (about the same as a normal monster), so you can only reasonably expect something out of the first category. (best odds of up to Ko for NM and up to ist for hell).
For the hellforge:
Normal: El - Amn
Nightmare: Sol - Um
Hell: Hel - Gul
Each one of the runes from the hellforge has an equal chance to be dropped or 1/11.

Wow thanks for that info, that has helped me a lot, I guess I'll be doing the countess quite a lot. And hell forge runs too :)
