Energy Shield and Max Block Rate

Well, in general just block rate. My question to you is this. Does blocking get applied before or after energy shield?

I know this because of all the times I run into a mana burn pack , get hit, and then don't see my blue bulb drained because I actually blocked the attack instead.

This is interesting and it makes me wonder if I should get both max block and energy shield, although I have a feeling it would be spreading points too thinly between energy, vitality and dexterity. Although it could be an interesting way to use my spare stat points on my base vit energy shield sorc. :scratch:
