View Full Version : Mind Blast for my Assassin?
I will make Trapsin. I got almost non Experience with Mind Blast. I will play in Party, so I wont use CoS often. My Questions are:
- Mind Blast. Is it an attack or a spell?
- Will I use it?
My Skills will look like: Death Sentry 20, Lightning Sentry 20, Charged Bolt Sentry 20, Shock Web 20, Claw Mastery 1, Burst of Speed 1, Fade 10-20.
Now i need to know if I should invest 3 Points into Mind Blast and its pre's ...
I'd say mind blast is a must for your trapsin, especially so in hell where u'll be fighting monsters with light immunity (your main source of damage). instead of spamming traps, u gotta spam mindblast to convert some meat shields to protect you.

Mind Blast is a no brainer, take it.
It basically looks like a clearish bunch of puddles that appears under the monster and converts / damages / stuns them. It's a spell I guess.

It's an incredibly good spell. Every assasin should have at least one level.
The only reason not to take MB is if you, like me, absolutely hate the conversion. Other than that, it's the second-best thing for any 'sin (after CoS).
mb saves you lots of times, usefull for pvm and goodly in pvp.
mb has three properties: stun, knockback and conversion.
Stun lets you hold things in place, all except uniques and above are rendered harmless while stunned, including minnions of destruction.
Knockback lets you pound something away or against a wall, if there's only one monster you can just as well use physic hammer (less mana cost). Including uniques but not bosses.
Conversion works on normal enemies except minnions of destruction (non unique/champion/boss etc). Converted enemies fight for you for a limited time and are used as distractions. Does not give the one-hit-kill effect of the paladin skill but nonetheless are excelent as meat shields when you've entered an unsafe tp or just want a barrier between you and an oncoming army. A single converted enemy can stop entire packs of monstears from attacking you, mercs and allies.
Even if you didn't want mb you should have the prereqs. Ph, CoS and mb are truly skills every assassin should have hotkeys assined for. Even in a party everyone will be gratefull once you cast CoS to stop archers/souls from attacking...

oh. doesnt give the one hit kill after they come back thing eh?
makes sense as paladin should be the only one that has that for strango builds. would be nice though :)
I'm with you there Muzzz ... hate the conversion, and given the choice will always cast CoS. For a pure trapper, it's worth a point, but for my K/T I don't have a use for it except perhaps in Tristram.

Just wondering are u guys saying max mb or just one point and its fine.

I think Kijya was referring to the fact that paladin conversion has a much higher succes rate than MB conversion. MB converted monsters can and will pick up any auras, possibly turning them into mean, lean killing machines for a few seconds when they un-convert.
Unless you're specifically planning to take advantage of converted monsters, which most 'sins aren't, I would never, ever put more than 1 point in MB. More likely none at all.

Nope, PontifulG understood me correctly. The paladin conversion skill lets you convert enemies in the same way as mind balst. However once the duration is up and they become your enemies again they will die from just 1 hit, kind of like how stunned enemies allways get into hit recovery from any damage, just a bit more fatal. MB as you know, does not have this one-hit-kill afterwards property.
1 point is fine if you ask me.

I never knew that . Gonna look into this, it sounds mighty interesting. Thanks!

Why not use cloak of shadows? is there some negative effect on the party you thin it had? it has many very useful properties. a couple of the top of my head:
99% of enemies will stand still and not attack you! (no chasing sand leapers anybody?)
Archers and Mages also wont attack you as much
Vemon Lords will only use their melee attack (melee attack can be blocked and with melee you will have less attac you at the same time due to the range of thier weapon being limited.)
it is very useful when perhaps you run into a room and OMG! its full of souls... One cloak of shadows will show you exactly where they are, make them stand still and stop them attacking you
the big difference is that CoS doesnt convert your enemies and so wont slow your party down but mind blast will. Thats why i only use mind blast if im in trouble, real deadly trouble otherwise i use CoS. Use if you have a huge pack of frenzytaurs chasing you, MB them a little but mostly you wont need it. Just keep it hotkeyed because being able to cast it fast may one day save you skin.
I use CoS all the time, in big parties or byself but it must have been ages since I had to use MB. Actually i view it as a bit of a crime when people dont use it... its like a necro not using curses or a barbarian not using Battle Orders...
