View Full Version : Question about Enigma armor and Monarch shield

I have two questions:

1) Why guides don't include Enigma (http://www.diabloii.net/items/runes/runewords-armor.shtml) as an valid armor?
It can save sorcs 2 skill points at least (1 telekinesis and 1 in teleport). And it is just AWESOME with +2 all skills, +45% faster run/walk, high defense (for sorcs), + max life, -damage taken, life and mana healing, and finally 80-99% MF. I mean, even not considering the teleport it gives +2 all skills and decent %MF which is better than skullder's ire and tal's armor.

2) Enigma (http://www.diabloii.net/items/runes/runewords-armor.shtml) can give up to +74 strength. If I rely on that bonus to use my Monarch shield which requires 156 str, will I be able to pick up my body when I die with my inventory is full? I mean, will my armor be put in place before the shield and thus provide the required str for me to pick-up and wear the shield?

I can't test that because I don't have an enigma (accepting donations =p) but if you have and also have a monarch shield please try that: wear enigma and the monarch shield. make sure your char can only use the monarch shield if your enigma is on. make your inventory full. Let monsters kill you and try to pick your body. I wonder if you will be able to pick it up. If you can't just free some space n your inv and you will be able to pick it (i think).

I was just given an Enigma due to the oncoming reset and was able to do some STR-requirement testing like you're asking about. Unfortunately, some items didn't equip after I purposely killed myself. I guess the game isn't "smart" enough to know about what order to load gear in, etc.

Fwiw, I feel like it was my shield that didn't equip.

I think there's an order in which the game counts +str items... like headgear -> etc etc with charms being last. so if you don't have enough +str from the items before you won't be able to pick up the rest

What about resists? FCR? FHR? Enigma is in my opinion badly placed in a Sorc. Saving +2 skills, better compensate those otherwise. Also aquireing str through hard points is not a problem, since you can always compensate life with some small charms.

Enigma for a Sorceress is hardly used. Maybe some people can come up with more points. Enigma is rather wellplaced on a Barbarian or Paladin.

Cool! Thans for the test and opinions guys.

Some one (not me i'm lazzy) could do a study about what order items get picked of bodies when players die... =p

Good new ladder 4 all!

Smart is the wrong word. It just takes your current strength into account and so you can equip that stuff. The mechanics don't save the order in which you placed the items. Actually its a bug, since it should recalculate the max str on your char when you replace the armor or other items you used to gain high str.

I'd agree with the above posts about Enigma being wasted on sorcs. You basically must have maxed resists on these characters because they'll never have barb-like life points, and armor is an ideal spot to get those resists.

In fact I'd say Vipermagi might even be a better move for a sorc than Enigma - fcr, resists...

The order in which the game checks for stats to pick up items:
Head
Neck
Torso
Right Arm
Left Arm
Right Ring
Left Ring
Belt
Feet
Gloves
Inventory (meaning charms, etc.)

Right hand from the character's perspective, so glove side and then boot side.

Nice info Torso, but if that is true then Ever should have been able to pick his shield! Don't u think? Maybe the some things changed from latter patches. Thanks anyway.

Not necessarily, he may have had str coming from his boots which gave him the final amount of strength required, I say boots as usually this is where you get an extra boost to strength usually, be it either from war travellers or SSTrek.

Could be. "Ever" can you clarify this to us? Was you needing str from your boots to use your shield when you made the test?
