I just read somewhere that lightning casting speed is effected by
IAS (Increased Attack Speed) instead of FCR (Fast cast rate).
Is that true?
What is the best merc for a light sorc? Holy freeze from ACT3 or Defensive
Aura from Act 2?
THanks.
It used to be affected by IAS in 1.09 (IIRC), it is done by FCR now.
I think the merc is a personal choice there are pros and cons for both. Personally I'd go for either a holy freeze or might merc as unless you have hugh defence to start with, defiance isn't as useful as you might think. And to avoid confusion, holy freeze mercs are from Act 2(NM), not 3. Might won't help you much, but it will help your merc survive (more damage=more leech) which will make your life easier. Alternatively you could go for style points and get an Act 5 merc.

I do believe there are different break points for light sorcs even though its now FCR based, i could be wrong. I always use and act2 might merc with andys visage and infinity/insight polearm, with pretty much any decent runeword/unique armor.
holy freeze is one of the top choices, you can also try for prayer which might help. The lightning breakpoints are different from other spells. It's 117% instead of 105% and it's much slower.
