View Full Version : Hi How can I improve the screen resolution?
Just bought a 19" LCD display. I find the 800x600 Diablo display blocky and not very smooth.
How can i change the settings.
My default monitor display is 1280 x 1024 at 60Htz.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
PS The game was much smoother on my old 17" tube display

Play it in window for smoother play. Keep in mind that clicking beside the window (...on the desktop) minimizes the window. I play this way for smooth runs and better view, but it can be a nuisance sometimes.
Actually, How do I set up a windowed view?
Pls Advise

Actually, How do I set up a windowed view?Create a Diablo II shortcut and add -w to the end of the shortcut target.
Hi thx for the info.
I now have a windowed game. Is there any way to make it full screened.
Current window is set for 1280 x 1024. The window is unfortunately a bit small.

um cant you go in game and edit the view? i think there was a way atleast last time i look like a year ago.
The only options in game are 640 and 800 x 600 view. No other options about resolution or screen size.

Yeah -- those are the only options. Your choice is to live with how it looks at in full screen at 800x600 (I play on a 24" monitor which does 1920x1200 just fine) or play with it in a windows that is still only 800x600 pixels.
The only reason it looked okay before is because CRT monitors don't have a certain resolution that looks better than others, whereas LCD monitors can look bad at their non-native resolution. My recommendation to you is to just get used to playing in full screen.
your monitor might have an option to keep the native res for lower resolutions
(showing 800x600 in the middle of the screen, with black bars on the sides)
Make sure you downloaded the latest Nvidia support files, it can make a lot difference :o

RianneDecrease your main resolution. That will effectively increase the size of the window. I used to recommend PowerStrip for hotkeying monitor settings, but it's done away with it's free version. You might be able to find an old version somewhere though.

I have the same problem as the op'er. Does running it in a window improve the way the game looks dramatically? I have an old CRT moniter that I might hook up for this game, if the windowed mode doesn't improve it.

The best thing would be to just try windowed mode?

yep, I got home and tried windowed mode, it looks like how I remember it on my old crt. Small screen though, but after a few hours playing, I got used to it.

This really won't fix his problem, as he is running an LCD monitor, which has a native resolution... and he would just have the same problem he is already complaining about.
The only real solution is to run it in a Window, or get your old CRT out for playing Diablo 2... which I am half tempted to do.

Basically it comes down to two options when you have an LCD.
1 - play full screen and live with artifacting from odd resolution
2 - play in a window and deal with it being small.
Thats it, end of story.

there is a way to change resolution by a programm.
its not the official way and when you only play sp its not that bad.
But you can be banned by using if you use it on battle.net

You do realize that posting links to competing sites is not allowed? And you do realize that you are advocating a non-Blizzard program? That's the same as posting a link to a Maphack. Goodbye, I believe.
